Chapter 20 by brambank brambank

Where should Leanne go?

Ignore the doctor’s advice

Leanne wasn’t sure why Dr Seward would tell her to avoid the upstairs or even why he had suddenly had a change of heart and allowed her to leave him. Either way she still didn’t trust him and, having been abused beyond what she could normally take, she decided she needed a change of scenery. There was little else that could be done to her that hadn’t already and Leanne felt safer going against what the strange medic said.

The nearest staircase was just around the corner from the doctor’s office. She’d seen it as they moved around the home, going from room to room. Leanne quickly found it before pausing briefly at the second to think through her decision. However, after a few seconds she began climbing up to the floor above.

The upper corridor was much the same as that below. Gloomy with little light and an odd pungent odour. It might have actually been darker on this floor than downstairs. She began to explore it and proceeded cautiously forward. Listening out for anyone either ahead or behind her.

She hadn’t gone far when she heard a voice. It was somewhat muffled at first, but then she recognised it much clearer. It was a voice she recognised; Abbie the girl she’d met earlier.

Eager to see a familiar face in this strange place, Leanne rushed towards the sound of the young blonde’s voice. It was coming from one of the bedrooms which lined the corridor. Leanne was hesitant now as she recalled what happened last time she walked in on Abbie in one of the rooms. However, as she listened for the girl’s voice again she heard it. Only she wasn’t speaking, she was screaming. She needed help and Leanne was right there.

Should Leanne help Abbie?
