Ignore it and cross the room!

You decide to ignore the plaque and instead cross the room. You make it about two thirds of the way across, only for a deep boom to echo through the chamber! You glance back, as the door you entered through slams shut, followed by the one in front of you! It's then that a voice echoes through the chamber, deep and loud.

"Ooooooohohohohoho! You thought you could come visit without paying my fees? Well now that will never do!" In an instant, a collection of spectral hands appears in the air and start swirling around, moving closer to you. "Last chance cutie! Either pay my new increased fee or prepare to be punished like the naughty girl you are!"
