I want to leave.

Much too freaked out by your experience, you turn and run out of the house, stumbling up the stairs, hitting the red button, racing through the entrance hall and bursting out through the front door to your car.

You've escaped.

But you haven't won.

You call your legal firm and tell them you can't do it. You were not able to get the papers.

Your boss, an asshole, entitled, snotty lawyer, fires you and says don't bother coming back to work. They'll send your the last paycheck by mail.

Whatever, you think.

Still freaked out, you decide to take your vacation anyway, and so you hike out in the woods, as far away from houses and technology as you can.

When you've finally regained your senses, you come back to your apartment, collect your back pay, and then find a new job as a paralegal for another law firm, albeit with a 30% pay cut due to having left your prior job under 'suspicious circumstances.'

The new law firm is cheaper than the old one, the clients are more upper-middle-class than upper-upper-class, but you get by.

Then, a month later, you see a news story with 'The Lucky Woman who Inherited the Hewitt Estate'.

You look closely, IS THAT JASON? THE OTHER PARALEGAL AT YOUR OLD FIRM? IS HE NOW A WOMAN?

It is!

Fuck, you pay close attention to the TV.

Apparently Jason, now Janet, was named as the sole inheritor of the Hewitt estate and all of it's extended holdings. After estate taxes, that still amounts to some 28 BILLION dollars.

"And this gorgeous house?" asks the TV interviewer.

The interview is being constructed in the main living room of the house (the one you just ran away from). Former paralegal Janet is wearing a gorgeous, floor length cream gown which falls down in graceful waves, highlighting her enormous chest, her graceful neck and radiant smile.

"Yes, indeed. This house..." she sighs. "It's a very special house. Jack Hewitt designed it himself. Every last detail. As soon as I stepped in the door, it felt like I had found my rightful place."

"How wonderful," said the TV interviewer, a masculine looking man. "And thank you for inviting me and the camera crew over for dinner."

"My pleasure," said Janet, looking straight at the camera.

You click off the TV and wonder what would have been.

28 BILLION dollars. And it could have all been yours.
