Chapter 18
by The Marksman
Two roads diverged and I-
I took the one less traveled by (The tunnel)
Agnetti couldn't take his eyes off the screen. Dr. Carter had actually run past the cage and was going back into the tunnels. The Typhon would be on her in minutes. Why the fuck would she run!
"God damn it." He grabbed a heavy plasma rifle. If he got down there fast enough maybe he could kill her before she became infected. If not, he might have to do something drastic.
Kat ran until she thought her lungs would burst. She tore through the dark tunnels, light blind and terrified. She knew the Typhon was following her. She knew the she could never outrun it, but she didn't have a plan. All she had was pure animal instinct, there was a predator, and she was prey. Her legs burned, she was covered in blood from half a dozen cuts and scrapes, her body was about to give out. Kat found the smallest tunnel she could find, sure to small to fit a creature as large as the Typhon. She crawled inside. There wasn't enough room to do much, she might even get stuck, but as she inched forward like a worm on her belly; she brought up her pad, her face falling at the sight before her.Message failed. No signal. Retry?
She thumbed the button. Message failed. Retry?
Again. Message failed.
Again.
Again
Again.
Kat she hammered the button over and over in the dark. Sam couldn't come down here. She couldn't let them get her baby. She lay in the dark, pressing the button again and again until her finger went numb, with only her tears for company.
Cindi was terrified. Her Aunt had just stopped responding. The last thing she'd said was that Agnetti was down there with her, only he wasn't, he was... oh no! Agnetti was gone. She wound back the video feed from his office. He'd been sitting at his desk, watching something, his face growing more and more distraught, before grabbing a sinister looking rifle and running out the door. Cindi had a feeling she knew where he was going. And there was already someone down in the lab with Aunt Kat. What was she going to do? What would Sam do?'Fear is a reaction, courage is a decision', came back to her in a rush. Cindi grabbed her brother's revolver, and made her decision.
Sam finally stripped out of her armor, they'd found a few old cots and pushed them together, it wasn't the most comfortable, but it beat the cold and dirty floor. Sam was surprised at how much she wanted to be held afterwards. Her normal sexual encounters were more transactional, she left after they finished, or kicked the other person out; but she'd been waiting most of decade to be in Adam's arms, she wanted to enjoy this, make it last. The galaxy and all its problems were lightyears away, Sam floated in a sea of contentment; beautiful, safe, wanted.
"You were my first kiss."
"Mine too." He reminded her.
"mmmmMMmm" Sam remembered. "I spent weeks figuring out how to get you to do it."
"You could have just asked." Adam replied, stroking her hair.
"It wouldn't have been the same. You'd have just given me a kiss. I wanted you to kiss me." Sam tried to stress the difference. For a preteen girl, they were world's apart. "Tell me something I don't know."
"I saw you naked at the Citadel."
"We all saw each other naked."
"...After I saw you naked, I ...you know."
Sam's slow grin nearly split her face. She wanted him to say it. "No. Could you elaborate? In detail, please."
Adam rolled his eyes, embarrassed, despite what they had just done. "I jerked off to you. A couple of times, actually."
"I guess you liked what you saw huh?"
"I was a teenage boy, we jerked off to everything." He blushed. "But I did think your ass was incredible." He admitted.
"Sure. Sure, Adam." Sam whistled and dropped her voice to a stage whisper. "Some-bodies a per-veeeeert."
Adam yanked her hair playfully, before giving her a soft kiss on the forehead. Sam laughed.
"Are we done embarrassing me, how about you go?"
Fair enough. "You were my first sex dream." She admitted.
"Wow!" Adam looked thoughtful. "Same, actually."
"Really?"
"Oh no, sorry that was your mom."
"What!" Sam's mouth fell open.
"She had those big boobs, and she always wore those tight shirts... ugh." Adam was grinning that sly grin of his. Sam hit him.
"Pervert." They both laughed.
Adam hesitated, his tone turning more serious. "Sam, there's some stuff we have to talk about."
Cindi. That couldn't have gone far, right? At least, not this far? She was his sister. Said the girl who just fucked her first cousin. Only she wasn't ready to leave this comforting world of warmth and love. Cindi and the rest of the galaxy had had Adam for years, she had only had him for less than an hour. The galaxy could wait.
"Can we talk about that later?" Sam's hand traced down her cousin belly to grip him. She felt his dick surge into her palm. Somebody liked her. "I have something else that needs attention right now."
Adam smiled and nodded, the galaxy could wait.
Cindi rode the elevator down, she was a bundle of nerves and second guessing. Should she have gotten Sam? Maybe. Only she hadn't seen her since last night. No, she had to be quick. If she hurried she could find her Aunt and get out of there before anyone even knew what happened. Agnetti had gotten on the lift shortly before her, so he should be long gone by the time she arrived. Third tunnel, no she said there was a cave in. Cindi's certainty that she made a mistake only increased with each passing moment.
Maybe she should just turn back. Just push the button again when she reached the bottom and tell Adam and Sam she couldn't find Kat. No one would ever know. Cindi cursed herself for being such a coward. Courage is a decision, she repeated her mantra like a prayer. Without so much as a chime, the elevator stopped and the doors popped open.
It was cooler down here, but even more moist. The tunnels looked like ancient lava tubes, their walls smoothed to near laser neatness by centuries of water run off, stalactites loomed off the ceiling and floor like demonic teeth. A few flickering lights overhead cast deep shadows over the ruined equipment littered everywhere. Cindi darted forward, the third tunnel was partially caved in, but she scrambled forward over the top, skidding down into the chamber below. A massive steel box of a lab dominated the space. Surrounded by a handful of steel columns keeping the chamber stable, the lab had been built right into the walls, a massive bay door lay open like the jaws of a metal monster. It was too dark to see inside, except for a gigantic glittering glass cage.
"I'm definitely in the right place." Cindi whispered. "I think I'll pee my pants now."
She thought she heard Agnetti skulking nearby. How was she going to search for her without him finding her?
Kat had was going to die. She knew that now. She should never have come down here. She only prayed her daughter didn't come looking for her. Oh Sam. She wished she'd been better for her daughter. Funny how at the end, it wasn't the adventures or the accolades she thought of, it was her little girl. She'd treated her like an afterthought her whole life and Sam was still twice the woman she was, in spite of everything. Kat's pad was long dead, the vital chemicals she'd been using to stay awake and sane were weakening. She could smell the Typhon closing in. Kat held her breath. Praying it wouldn't find her.
"No no no no no. I'm not here." She whispered. Then she heard that terrible screeching roar and felt the rock just past her feet vibrated, a class just barely nicked her boot. Kat pushed her self deeper, into the pitch black tunnel, every inch tighter and darker than the last. It might not even be a tunnel at all, she was just waiting for the moment her hands touched a dead end, but she dared not stop. The Typhon began to tear the wall apart, making itself a path to reach her.
Kat sobbed, frightened to tears, she couldn't see, couldn't breath the ceiling pressed down on her so tight. Deeper and deeper, she had to reach the other side. Until suddenly she caught. Some part of her was stuck and she couldn't go forward. She tried to wiggle backward, but that was impossible too. She was trapped and **** for air, the coppery musk making her head spin.
"Help." Kat gasped. "Help."
But no one came. The Typhon was scratching at her boots again. Its terrible roar sounded triumphant. Why couldn't it just let her go?
And then all of a sudden it did. And Kat heard the sound she had been dreading. The sound of despair. Her little niece had come looking for her.
"Aunt Kat!" Cindi called. "Aunt Kaaaaaat!"
Agnetti heard it too. And so must the Typhon. Some stupid little girl was going to bring the beast down on herself and pay the price. Only it wouldn't just be her that suffered. All of humankind would be at risk. He trotted off towards the sound, careful to keep his back to the nearest wall. The creature liked to approach from behind.
"Aunt Kat!" The girl called again. "Aunt Kaaaaaat!"
Colonel Agnetti caught a flash of the Typhon near the wall. He remembered the very first time he'd seen one of these monsters, it had landed among his squad in the ruins of a city on Ferrom, torn his men limb from limb. They'd burned it, bashed it, cut it open, it just kept coming. They finally thought it was dead when one lucky SOB had thrown a grenade in its face and it crawled away, only for it to return, hours later, wounds already scabbing over, furious and vengeful. You couldn't forget a monster like that.
The girl was back in the antechamber leading to the lab. He flicked up the nightsight on his rifle and scanned the room. The parabolic microphone led him right to spot near the entrance. But she wasn't there, he zoomed in farther. A discarded pad was on the ground.
"Aunt Kat!" The pad called out again, clearly on repeat. "Aunt Kaaaaaat!"
She'd used her pad as a lure. Clever girl. The Typhon disagreed, it dropped from the ceiling to land with a hiss, its hand scooping up the pad, eyes tracking left and right furiously. It sniffed to catch the scent. Turned and crushed it in a rage. When the Typhon turned back to roar again, Agnetti squeezed the trigger.
Kat was too tired to weep, too exhausted to even think. She had failed utterly and completely. She just wanted it to end. Instead she felt a terrible fierce grip, wrap around her legs. The Typhon! It gripped and heaved, Kat was dragged back, maybe all of an inch. She tried to resist, tried to claw at the walls, but she was too weak. Another pull. If only her pad still worked, she could give herself a fatal overdose of morpha, and go out in a beautiful dream. She heard the monster strain, grunting with effort, **** to seize its prize. Maybe the Typhon would make it quick, she hoped so. One more pull and Kat was unceremoniously dropped out of her hole and back into the muddy floor. Her sweating, heaving niece gasping for breath above her."Cindi?" Kat whispered, too weak to understand she'd been saved.
Cindi dragged her too her feet. "We got to go."
Agnetti's first shot had struck the Typhon in the sternum. The next two missed completely. It had been lucky he'd hit it at all. He thought back to that fateful last day on Ferrom.
They'd been there a month, losing men every day, before anyone dared say what they were all thinking; Command sent them on a suicide mission. He didn't blame them, that was a soldier's burden, 'that others may live'. But they could have been honest. Could have explained the situation. Asked for volunteers. Instead they claimed that the Typhon presence was minimal, and it could still be contained by ground troops. It was a lie. Whether they did it for the PR or pride or just to study how these monsters killed people, they sent them here with no chance of success. Lieutenant Jason Agnetti was going to die at the tender age of twenty three.
The infestation was total. Day one proved that. These weren't just mature specimens. They were fully grown adults, 'Pure-Bloods' one of the scientists later insisted on calling them. Whatever they were, they were fast as hell. They never even saw it grab Private Banks. One second Banks was with them, talking and laughing, the next he was gone. Moments later, his headless body dropped on them. That was the last time they went under an overpass. Tsuzuki and Patel got it next. Both their guts ripped out, Patel's tongue too. Vanessa thought it might have mortally wounded Patel when he was taking a shit, then used the dying soldier's wordless moans to lure out Tsuzuki. Command told them they were animals. But they weren't. No one went anywhere alone after that.
Garcia was the first female casualty. At the time, no one understood how odd it was for a Typhon to kill a young woman. Turned out she'd had a hysterectomy at sixteen, the Typhon had no use for her. More died every single day. They burned out a few nests where they could. Mostly adolescents and starving infectors: little fuckers were the stuff of nightmares, they looked like tiny albino babies, and they moved like lightning. They'd eat anything even each other, eating and growing, spreading the plague far and wide. Starve 'em out, had been the only option. They burned the dead, theirs and Typhons, after Vanessa found a pack of Rabies Babies munching on some still kicking adolescent.
Agnetti had landed with over forty men in his platoon. By the end of the month he was down to eight. It wasn't the adolescents or infectors killing his people, although once went below 50% combat strength, they were a real threat, no, big guys were out there. At least two. Agnetti could tell them apart now. The way they moved, the way they smelled. Vanessa sat down next to him. She was the only woman left. None of them talked about how the women just disappeared, no blood, no body. They were all afraid of what it might mean.
"I saw it, Jason. It let me see."
He'd heard it before. Some strange part of its mating dance, to display itself before it **** whatever unlucky woman it had chosen.
"We'll put you in the watchtower." He swallowed. "We'll all stand guard. You'll be safe there."
Vanessa put her hand on his cheek, cupping it, like she'd done after the first time they'd kissed. She wasn't one for tenderness, but tonight was goodbye. "I don't want anyone else to die for me." She looked into the fire. "We've lost too many people."
"Command is going to pull us out tomorrow. We just need to hold on."
"Command sent us here to die." There is was. The cold naked truth. Vanessa stared out into the dark. "Step back, it won't hurt you if you're not close."
Jason took her meaning instantly, but instead leveled his rifle, the darkness gave nothing away. He spun. Jumped when Vanessa touched his shoulder.
"Please, Jason, you can't fight this. Don't make me run away from you. I want to remember your eyes."
And like a coward he took a few steps back and waited, refusing to blink, not willing to let her lose of moment of him. And then she was gone. Her rifle still on the ground, the wind whipping in his ears, the Typhon took her faster than the eye could see. Fighting it would have been, nothing, like bug against a elephant.
He didn't know if it was 'Pure-Blood', but it was fast enough to dodge plasma bolts. He was going to have to hurry if he wanted vengeance.
Cindi dragged her Aunt through the tunnels. She couldn't keep this up. The older woman was larger and heavier, the terrain was too rough. She staggered against a wall.
"Aunt Kat wake up!" She wished she had a pad, she'd sacrificed Adam's to act as a lure and Aunt Kat's was clearly dead. She pried open an eyelid and looked inside, massively dilated pupils. **** overdose? Combined with hypoxia from that crevice she'd dragged her out of Kat was on the bad side of organ failure. There was nothing she could do, besides get her up top where there was medicine and doctors.
There was no way to get her back over the rockslide without some kind of stretcher. Cindi tucked her Aunt back against the wall. "I'll be right back." There was no response.
Cindi shuffled away as quietly as she could, weaving her way back to the lab. So far so good. She'd just found a detachable gurney when she felt a rifle press into the back of her head. Agnetti.
"Have you been bitten?" Cindi was too scared to answer. The rifle jabbed her hard this time. "Have. You. Been. Bitten?" She shook her head.
"What are you doing down here, girl?" The colonel growled.
"I'm just here to get my aunt. She's hurt."
"Doctor Carter is your Aunt?" Cindi nodded, slowly.
"Turn around." Cindi complied. Agnetti was iron hard man in his early sixties, with a face that had a hard life written into every wrinkle. "Why would they send you two down here?" The question seemed rhetorical, and the rifle was still in between her breasts, so Cindi stayed silent.
"Don't you know what these things do to women?"
"What things?"
"Typhons."
Kat was being carried, she felt comfortable. Safe. She let herself drift back into unconsciousness. When she could open her eyes again a monstrous form rose above her. Kat screamed in the Typhons face. Its reply a shrieking roar that dwarfed hers. She squirmed and tried to crawl away, but it was on her in a flash. Tearing clothes and tugging her back down. That heavy copper musk invaded her senses, made her slow and weak, even as she fought back disgust. The creature wasted no time. Its reproductive organ- more ovipositor, than penis - angrily jabbed at her thigh. Its entire form was raw power, from the fanged serpent like head, to hits powerful shoulders and arms, all the way down to its muscular trunk like legs, a thick swishing tail dragged behind it. Kat's body responded, even as she denied it, her nipples grew hard and her vagina wet, the coppery musk infecting her.
"NO!" Kat screamed. "Please. No!"
But if Typhon understood, it did not care. Holding her by the shoulders, it pierced her with one solid thrust, impaling her on its breeding tool. Kat wailed and beat at it with her fists, tears of frustration and rage as she shook her head in despair. It made no matter the beast was relentless. Pounding away at her, piercing to her very core. Its shaft was ridged and bumpy, chewing at her tight- formerly tight -walls.
"Help." Kat whimpered, in both agony and pleasure. "Someone please, help!" She felt an orgasm approaching, and she hated herself for it. The shameful urge to cum building unflappably. But her attempts to block it would only make it that much stronger when it came. The beast didn't care. It fucked like a machine, single purpose and unstoppable. Kat knew that her orgasm would likely trigger his. As she looked down at the bulge in her stomach from where it was entering her, she started to cry. It was going to impregnate her!
"Please god no! I can't. I can't. I can't. Please. Please no! You'll kill me!"
The beast ignored her. She cried as she felt her orgasm build stronger within her belly. She knew it was going to ruin her. The beast seemed to sense it too, its eyes took on a fierce eagerness. Kat felt the first jolt run from her sensitive nipples all the way to her aching womanhood. She was going to carry this things monstrous offspring, again and again. It would use her a broodmare to create more Typhons, who would find more women, to do this to. Galactic parasites! A plague on the galaxy, and she was about to be its toxic Eve. Another pulse, Kat shook with the **** of her restraint. She stared up at it. The father of her children. Did it even know what it was doing to her. Did it care?
The Typhons lips twisted into some dark approximation of a smile. It took one hand off her shoulders and placed it knowingly on her belly. It knew. And it was pleased.
Kat came with a wail as she sealed her fate. Her vagina clamped down on this monstrous ****. Hot tears spilling down her cheeks as she arched her back and felt the orgasm through her whole body. The Typhon roared and thrust deep, its seed rocketing out to invade her womb, stealing her future.
Its gaze was hot and hateful, this creature would be the doom of the human race. It despised her, Kat realized. And then she felt its fangs pierce her breast and started screaming again.
"She's just over here." Cindi led Agnetti quietly back to Aunt Kat. He'd refused to help carry the stretcher, but so long as he had that gun, she felt safer anyway. Cindi felt her heart clench with terror when she discovered her Aunt was gone.
"Aunt Kat!" She yelled before Agnetti cuffed her. "What was that?"
"The Typhon has her."
"You can't know that." Cindi defied him. She shouted again, louder. "Aunt Kaaaattt!"
Agnetti cuffed her again, harder. "Be silent or you'll get us both killed. We have to leave. Now."
Cindi dropped the stretcher and ran, her long legs carrying her up the top of the rubble from the rockslide, she couldn't be dead. She couldn't be. Just then, she caught sight of her, her clothes tattered and riped, huddling by some debris.
"She's alive!" Cindi crowed, racing down the slope and dashing heedlessly through the rubble. Everything was going to be ok. They were going to be ok. Agnetti followed close behind.
"Aunt Kat, you're alive!" Cindi wrapped her arms around the older woman. "Are you hurt?"
Kat didn't meet her eyes, she was mumbling under her breath, rocking back and forth. Agnetti finally caught up, huffing and panting. He eyed the woman suspiciously. "Come over here, Cindi."
Cindi didn't trust him. "No. She's fine, see? I told you she was alive and I was right. I don't even know you!" Cindi tried to drag her Aunt to her feet, but she wouldn't budge. "Come ON! We can't stay here!"
"Cindi, she could be infected. Look at her clothes! Come here now!"
"We are NOT leaving her!" Cindi shouted. Kat's face snapped up and locked onto Cindi's, a sinister smile forming as she did.
"Cindi, dear. We're so glad you're here." Her voice was strange, flat and emotionless, despite the insane grin on her face. She rose fluidly, not at all weak, like she'd been before. As she did, Cindi noticed two things, a gush of thick cum leaking from between her legs and a bleeding wound on her breast, with silvery slime leaking free.
"Oh fuck. She's been bitten!" Agnetti cried and fired. His shot tore a chunk out of the ceiling, as the Typhon ripped the rifle from his hands. Agnetti didn't even have time to speak before it tore his head off with a single swipe.
Cindi felt warm liquid running down her thighs. The monster before her was like something out of a horror story. Three meters tall and covered in dark scales, its hair hung lank and over its head, the stink of burning metal emanating out of him was overpowering. She took a step back, and it followed her step for step. Not bothering to run, it didn't even even reach out a hand, which made Cindi jump all the more when she felt a pair grip her shoulders tightly.
"Cindi dear." Aunt Kat purred in her ear. "Meet our new husband."
Cindi began to cry, and soon her screams echoed off the walls.
