Chapter 103 by sipainting sipainting

What is your next step?

I spend a weekend with Robert's family.

Robert has invited you to his family retreat on Lake Tahoe. It's the middle of summer and the whole family will be there.

You are intimidated because this includes all five of his daughters, and all but one are older than you are!

"That is SO cute!" says Elizabeth, the oldest, coming in to your bedroom.

"Thanks!" you say, twirling. You're wearing a gold one-piece swimsuit with a floaty, flirty wrap. "And that's a beautiful bracelet you have."

"Thank you!" says Elizabeth, flashing it. "It was originally a gift from Dad to Mom, but I inherited it when she died. It's a tennis bracelet with alternating diamonds and emeralds."

"Those are real??" you can't help but say, admiringly. "It's so sparkly!"

"What were you thinking of wearing for dinner? Dad likes to do something a bit more formal for Friday dinners."

"Oh! Thanks for letting me know!" You say. "I have this pink halter dress which ties around the neck. What do you think?"

"Perfect!" Elizabeth says. "But are you wearing a bra with that?"

"Of course. These puppies need support! It's strapless, from Spanx."

"Oh! I've always wanted to try one of those. How is it?"

"It's good! You know, for a strapless bra." you shrug.

"Oh honey, I certainly do know!"

Pleased that you seem to have hit it off with at least one daughter, you dance off to the pool where the other daughters ooh and ahh over your swimsuit. You strike up a conversation with two of them.

"We're SO glad you're dating Dad," Jane says.

"Oh, yes," Catherine agrees. "He's been so lonely recently. We've all been worried about him."

"And he was starting to think he'd never find anyone, you know, after his last two dates didn't work out."

"The last two didn't work out? Why?" you ask, feeling nervous.

"Well, one of them interrupted Dad during his favorite story. He has this story he tells all the time about how he started his company in a warehouse in the red-light district of LA, back when, you know, LA actually had a 'red-light' district," Jane rolls her eyes. "Anyway, she interrupted him, and he got so upset that we never saw her again!"

"But I'm sure that won't happen with you, will it?" Catherine asks. "You wouldn't interrupt Dad when he's telling his favorite story, would you?"

"Of course not!" you make a mental note: don't interrupt Robert - ever! "But... what happened to the other one?"

"Well, it's a bit embarrassing," they looked at each other, as if deciding whether or not they should tell me.

"I can handle it, I promise!"

"Okay," Catherine says. "Dad can be a bit... well... 'handsy' with his dates. So, during our family dinner, one of the dates felt his hand between her legs, and she screamed and jumped up! I mean, I don't blame her, but apparently it embarrassed Dad so much that he dumped her right then."

"She never even got dessert," said Jane.

"I know, I felt so bad for her. But, you know, Dad's a bit old-fashioned. He comes from an age where women actually like to be groped under the table like that."

"Then we're perfect for each other! I like to be groped under the table like that," you admit.

"Then you'll be perfect for him!"

The two look at each other and smile.

You're so happy that you're getting such good advice from the daughters! You smile and decide to dive into the pool, showing off your new, trim, feminine figure to Robert who devours your body with his eyes.

You saunter down to dinner, confident in your semi-formal pink halter dress which is TO DIE FOR. Only to stop short.

Everyone is wearing casual clothes!

The women are wearing jeans or simple skirts with off the shoulder slouchy tees, puffed sleeve ribbed cotton blouses, boyfriend-style dress shirts or comfy sweaters.

The mean are wearing polos and T-shirts with jeans or shorts and TEVAs.

They're wearing flip-flops and TEVAs!

Blushing beet red, you turn around to leave and change...

Only to run smack into Robert.

"Oh, Jennifer," he says. He looks you up and down. "You look amazing." he says.

And you can hear it in his voice. He really does like how you look. And although he's wearing a pair of jeans and a golf shirt, at least it's a really nice pair of jeans.

And then he pulls you into a long, deep kiss... and you just melt into his arms. Oh... you would give up everything to just be held by this man and to be kissed like that again.

"I was just going to change," you explain, once he breaks off the kiss. "I thought it was supposed to be semi-formal."

"Why would you think that?" he asks.

"Well..."

But you look at the daughters, and you notice that a couple of them (at least) are looking at you smirking and all judge-y and stuff. Honestly, it's like high-school all over again!

"No reason," you say, not wanting to tattle on anyone, knowing that would just make things worse. "It was just my misunderstanding."

"Well, you are not going anywhere," Robert says, taking you by the arm. "I love that dress."

"Oh, Robert," you sigh. "I think I'm..."

"You're think you're what?" he asks, as he hold the chair out to you.

"Nothing," you mumble, fearing it's too early to say what you were going to say.

Do you stay and join the dinner or leave?
