I don't know.

While you were twiddling your fork in your omelette, slowly eating it up, your mother took your hand in hers and looked at you fondly. "Honey, you know I'm here for you if you ever want to talk to me."

You smile sadly and gripped her hand back, rubbing your against her surprisingly smooth skin. It's strange that you never notice that until now... "Thanks, mom..." you purred unconsciously.

At that moment, you could swear that you heard your mom shudder. Even if it was just a brief second. She took her hand back and looked at it from both sides, then looked at you. Now it was YOUR turn to be concerned.

"Mom?"

But she just got up from the table, and said, "Eat your breakfast. I'll be back to give you a lift." She walked quickly out of the room, with you looking at where she disappeared to: the bathroom, closing the door kinda loudly.

Then there was a locking click that sparked your interest, but you have one more small, triangular bite of your omelette before going to investigate. You hear the sound of running water, most likely the sink, and you press your ear to the door the listen.

Your mom had turned on the sink so that she could wash her face, muttering something to herself which you couldn't understand. The only ones you can understand were 'my son' and 'thinking'.

Was your mom disappointed in you? As in, what could her son be thinking? What was it you did WRONG?

Your mom had been in there for at least 2 minutes before the water turned off. You moved away from the door, making her think you weren't being nosey, and actually finished your breakfast as she came out.

"Mom? John..." You heard your sister calling. Finally she came out, but... in her bra and panties? "Did you eat without me?"

"Shelly!" Your mom was shocked to see how underdressed she was. "Go back in your room and put on more clothes!"

"This is MY house too, you know," Shelly rebelled. "I can wear whatever the hell I want." It looks like things were going to get ugly this morning, so you decided to step in.

"Shelly, why don't you go put on some more clothes? Look presentable, y'know?" Shelly looked to have the same twinkle in her eye, but contained her smile.

"Alright, alright! I'll drab up." And she went back in the room to get dressed.

Your mom smiled astonishingly at you, saying, "You two HAVE gotten closer, haven't you? I could never get her to do what I say. How did you DO it?"

There was NO way to explain to her how you made Shelly listen to what you say. "Uh... We compromised," you made up on the spot. "We pointed out our flaws, and uh... We explained why that was, and made an agreement." You darted your eyes to the clock, seeing you were gonna be late. "Aw, shit! We gotta get going, ma!"

You managed to collect all of your stuff, and it seems like you were going to get to school on time. There was a tension in the car ride there that wasn't coming from you, but you could feel it...

"Honey?" your mother asked, getting your attention. "Um, ho-how did your tutoring go? With miss Cardigan." It seemed like an odd time to bring up what you were doing with her; you couldn't bring yourself to tell her because how would she understand...?

"It went great, Mom," you grin. "I think I'm gonna do better in class."

"Really. What did you study?" Where were these questions COMING from? What's with her today, taking an interest in 'tutoring' with Bella?
