Hunt's Everyone Down

"Um... buddy? You might want to untie me. This isn't looking good." Steve motions his head towards the puddle of latex, where the guy who had been consumed by it now stands as a huge, black, angry rubber porcupine man. Even more worrying is the swirling rainbow substance beneath him, which has started to separate and slither along the ground like water down an incline towards anyone anywhere nearby... including you and Steve.

You grab the knot, hastily tugging it apart, and then you and Steve turn to see the porcupine inhaling. "Oh shit!" Steve yells, grabbing you and pulling you behind the tree. You almost curse at him for handling you so roughly, but before you get a chance you hear a series of "FTT" noises. Peeking out to see what just happened, you spot a series of the porcupine's needle's puncturing the tree that had provided your cover... and the elder who'd been too stupid to flee with needles inverting themselves in his skin, turning him into yet another porcupine man.

Steve grabs you by the wrist, breaking the distraction. "Come on, we have to get the hell out of here!" He drags you through the woods, your legs barely moving fast enough to keep pace, and only stops several minutes later when you emerge at the edge of the forest, standing on the side of a highway on the edge of town. He glances about, making sure that nothing's waiting to get the drop on you, and then gets a determined look in his eyes.

"Okay, the shit has hit the fan. There's nothing to keep those things from coming after us anymore, from coming after EVERYONE, except you and me. Oh, this is all my fault... WHY did I jump out like that? Dammit, I should have just stayed in the bushes..." You pat him on the back, and he regains his focus. "Okay, here's the deal. We know that oil can kill these things. Maybe it's different now, maybe with it being spilt out of that barrel and being on people we can't stop them anymore, but it's the only chance we've got. I need you to go back into town before this hits there and get whatever you can that might work against these things. Oil, gas, I don't know, whatever dissolves rubber."

"What about-" you start, but he stops you mid-sentence.

"I need to find the guys who were smart enough to run away when that bucket dropped. I'm going to go back into the woods and see if I can get to them before those things do. They summoned that crap, they might know how to send it back where it came from."

"But-" you try to protest, but again he won't let you speak.

"As I said, this is my fault. I fucked up here, and I need to fix it. I'm not going to risk your life for my mistakes. Now go. GO!"

You start running towards the city limits while you watch Steve vanish into the treeline, either a brave man or a stupid one.
