Chapter 14

Will You Go After Steve or Head To The City?

Head To The City

Four - no, five - five monsters are pacing about just ahead of you, inside of the city, apparently scouting for more victims. You'd run straight here, but somehow they reached the town first, and already they've begun to spread. It doesn't take you long to figure out how when you spot a chestnut-colored latex horse of sorts, albeit one with a man-shaped torso and a pair of muscular arms ending in hands with hoof-like finders, pacing about at their front (because a regular horse wouldn't be hard enough to deal with, oh no, this one has to have biceps that make it looks like it could rip you in half). Quickly surveying the rest of their little raiding party, you make note of each of the monsters: a green cat woman, not unlike the blue cat man you'd seen earlier; a rather ferocious-looking tiger man with the traditional orange fur (or rather, flesh) with black stripes; the most utterly massive yellow canary you've ever seen. Then, of course, there was the one you hadn't noticed at first, its mostly black latex skin almost impossible to spot under cover of night but the white stripes running up its back almost impossible to miss when it isn't facing you. Standing six feet tall and tail raised, it's an anthropomorphic skunk, primed to spray the first person who crosses its path.

Since they're all still hanging around at the very outermost part of the city and not really doing anything, it's safe to assume that either everyone in the city is still safe or no one is. Either way, you need to get in, if only to get your hands on the supplies that serve as your only chance, and you don't have enough time to go around the five beasts already standing in your way. You start trying to think up a plan, but everything seems to end poorly: if you try to outrun them then the horse just catch up and pummel the living daylights out of you, and if you get too close you'll probably be sprayed by that skunk (and whether it sprays musk or rubber, you'd rather not let that happen). You could try sneaking by, but if that tiger's senses are nearly as powerful as the animal he resembles there's no way you wouldn't be spotted. Even leaping across rooftops or through trees wouldn't be safe if you had the skill to do it, with the canary capable of just flying up to get you.

Then it hits you: they aren't doing anything. They're GUARDING the town. Between the five of them, they could stop just about any attempt at entry by someone like you, leaving them more than enough time to spread through the entire town long before you could make it in. And who knows? Maybe they're even smart enough to get rid of anything you could use against them! But whether or not that's the case, you still need to get in quick - if the city's overrun then you won't stand a chance of reaching even a single drop of oil, gasoline, or anything else before you meet the same fate as they have. You'll just have to think of a way to get past these guys, or - barring that - rush the bastards and hope that you can run faster than a horse.

Fight or Flight?
