What do you decide to do?
How about a few magical mines?
You slip down from the branch, taking smoke form again. You then glide around in a somewhat random pattern, occasionally turning solid. When you were solid, you would touch leaves, rocks and twigs. As you touched them, you would infuse a bit of your dark magic into them. As soon as anyone brushed against them, they would explode into a deadly blast of demonic fire.
Satisfied with your work, you hear the first of the mines go off, followed by screaming. Looking back, you can see that the mine has set one of the humans in chain-mail on fire, the mages and clerics were busy trying to put it out.
You could continue to sabotage their path or you could take off and resume your mission...
