“It's her! I saw her take the scroll!” Opening her eyes, Hinata sees that most of the town is surrounding her in the hot springs.
As it turns out, the scroll is sacred to the village, and the villagers aren't happy to have it gone.
Hinata looks at the angry villagers, knowing they will not take pity on her. Still, this was her responsibility, and she accepts it. She kneels and submits to their punishment, admitting her theft.
The angry mob ties her up and drags her away. Hinata doesn't try to fight them. The only thing she can do is accept her punishment. Her face turns red, she is very ashamed as she starts her walk of shame.
The people keep screaming and throwing vegetables. Hinata is starting to feel like a human salad as she reaches the stocks in the main square.
As they put her in the stocks for her punishment, Hinata feels deeply humiliated but accepts her fate. Sure the stocks are mortifying, but at least they didn't make her eat a ghost pepper. She was grateful they didn't, that would have been the worst.
