Moves

Destiny’s Plaything: At the beginning of each Mystery, roll +weird to see what is revealed about your immediate future. On a 10+, the keeper will reveal a useful detail about the coming mystery. On a 7-9 you get a vague hint about it. On a miss, something bad is going to happen to you.

I’m Here for a Reason: There’s something you are destined to do. Work out the details with the Keeper, based on your fate. You cannot die until it comes to pass. If you die in play, then you must spend a Luck point. You will then, somehow, recover or be returned to life. Once your task is done (or you use up all your Luck), all bets are off.

Dutiful: When your fate rears its ugly head, and you act in accordance with any of your fate tags (either heroic or doom) then mark experience. If it’s a heroic tag, take +1 forward.

History

James Smith was your average 18 year old high school boy, until he was approached by one his teachers, Beatrice Reid. But when she said that she had something important to show him, something that she could only show him in private, James did what many young horny 18 year old boys would do. He followed her. If James had been aware of just who Beatrice was, he might have been more cautious around her...

But He followed the hot older woman into a dark secret location. To James' dismay the secret something that Beatrice wanted to show him was NOT her breasts, but rather Beatrice told him that James had a great destiny and was a Chosen One (If he had been thinking straight, he might have questioned the "a" part) and that she was to be his mentor and teach him how to fight the forces of darkness.

Like all young 18 year old boys who think they are immortal, James immediately jumped at the opportunity to be A HERO like in the fantasy Shonin stories, and at the opportunity to impress his hot teacher, or maybe one of the Cheerleaders.

Moves

When you are in good standing with your Sect, at the beginning of each mystery, roll +Charm. On a 10+ they provide some useful info or help in the field. On a 7-9 you get a mission associated with the mystery, and if you do it, you’ll get some info or help too. On a miss, they ask you to do something bad. If you fail a mission or refuse an order, you’ll be in trouble with the Sect until you atone.

Mystic: Every time you successfully use magic, take +1 forward.

Ancient Fighting Arts: When using an old-fashioned hand weapon, you inflict +1 harm and get +1 whenever you roll protect someone.

That Old Black Magic: When you use magic, you can ask a question from the investigate a mystery move as your effect.

History

Beatrice has been in the Order of Prophecy all of her life. Like her parents, and their parents, and their parents (and so on and so fourth), she has dedicated her life to The Order. In service to The Order, Beatrice has two main missions in life.

Fighting the monsters in the world, and looking for Chosen Ones. Looking for potential Chosen Ones was always an ongoing process. They tended to not last very long, and regardless of the name, there could actually be more than one "Chosen One" active at once.

Still, they were very rare and considered a valuable resource for The Order.

Which is why Beatrice was presently surprised to run into a potential Chosen One during her "Mundane Job" as a High School Teacher. At first glance there appeared nothing special about James. He had average grades, slightly above average athletic abilities, and he wasn't particularly ugly or handsome. But she noticed how events seemed to often go his way, which Beatrice realized was a sign of the forces of Fate bending around him. So, she performed a few tests, a few magical rituals, and confirmed that he was a Chosen One.

That left the task of convincing him to actually take the job. But it did not take much to convince the hot-blooded 18 year old boy to do whatever she wanted. Thus, Beatrice started to train James as a Chosen one, giving her new status, but also new responsibilities in her Order.

Now Beatrice just had to keep James out of trouble at school AND alive long enough to figure out whatever his destiny as a Chosen One was.

Curse: Vulnerability (silver): suffer +1 harm when you suffer harm from it. If you are bound or surrounded by it, you must act under pressure to use your powers.

You may change your form (usually into an animal). Decide if you have just one alternate form or several, and detail them. You gain +1 to investigate a mystery when using an alternate form’s superior senses (e.g. smell for a wolf, sight for an eagle).

History

If you had asked Alice Fox what kind of girl she was before she became a Werewolf, Alice would have told you that she was plain and ordinary. She got decent grades, when on dates with her boyfriend, helped her friend and neighbor Mandy do her homework, and gossiped about what was trending online.

But then there was THAT night.

Her boyfriend had taken her to make out point, and Alice was about to let him go all the way. But then she heard something. At first Alice and her boyfriend ignored the noise, but it got louder and closer. Against her better judgement, her boyfriend got out of the car. Following him, Alice followed.

At first all Alice saw was a blur of grey, and then a sensation of pain on her arm. Next thing she knew her boyfriend had pushed her out of the way of the thing. Only for the beast to tackle him to the ground.

Before Alice could even register what was going on, she started to run, clutching her bleeding arm, trying to ignore the sounds of her boyfriend screaming as the beast started to eat him. She ran, and she ran, until she saw her friend and neighbor Mandy in another parked car. Begging for help, Alice got in Mandy's car, and they drove away.

Beatrice Reid (The Initiate): They tried to slay you, but you proved you’re on the side of good.

Always The Victim: When another hunter uses protect someone to protect you, they mark experience. Whenever a monster captures you, you mark experience.

Don’t Worry, I’ll Check It Out: Whenever you go off by yourself to check out somewhere (or something) scary, mark experience.

Panic Button: When you need to escape, name the route you’ll try and roll +Sharp. On a 10+ you’re out of danger, no problem.

On a 7-9 you can go or stay, but if you go it’s going to cost you (you leave something behind or something comes with you). On a miss, you are caught halfway out.

History

Mandy is the Queen Bee of her High School, or she was anyway. Not only was she the Cheer Captain of the High School Cheerleading Squad, but she was also dating the Quarterback of the Football Team, her Mom was on the School Board, and her Dad was even the Mayor! Life was coming up Mandy!

But the higher you are, the further you can fall.

It all started when Mandy was at look out point with her boyfriend. He was getting handsy and she was putting up just enough resistance to let him know that she weren't a slut, you both heard the screams. Mandy's boyfriend pretended not to notice, but then Mandy saw her friend Alice running. Pushing her boyfriend off of her, Mandy got out of the car and ran towards her friend. When she got closer Mandy was horrified to see Alice holding her bleeding arm. Mandy's boyfriend wasn't far behind and both of them started to ask Alice questions.

That was when everyone heard the howls. Mandy's boyfriend took a few steps towards the noises, wanting to 'see what it was'. That was when she saw the giant wolf leap onto him.

Screaming, both Mandy and Alice ran back towards the car. Thankfully it didn't take long to start, because as Mandy drove away, she could see the giant wolf through the rear-view mirror, still feasting on the body of her now dead boyfriend.

Panicking, Mandy didn't consider going home or the hospital. Instead, she drove to the house of the one person she looked up to. Her homeroom teacher, Patricia Knowles.

Often Right: When a hunter comes to you for advice about a problem, give them your honest opinion and advice. If they take your advice, they get +1 ongoing while following your advice, and you mark experience.

Preparedness: When you need something unusual or rare, roll +Sharp. On a 10+, you have it here right now. On a 7-9 you have it, but not here: it will take some time to get it. On a miss, you know where it is, but it’s somewhere real bad.

Haven

Lore Library. When you hit the books, take +1 forward to investigate the mystery (as long as historical or reference works are appropriate).

Protection Spells. Your haven is safe from monsters—they cannot enter. Monsters might be able to do something special to evade the wards, but not easily.

Armory. You have a stockpile of mystical and rare monster-killing weapons and items. If you need a special weapon, roll +Weird. On a 10+ you have it (and plenty if that matters). On a 7-9 you have it, but only the minimum. On a miss, you’ve got the wrong thing.

History

Patricia Knowles has always had an interest in the occult. Vampires, werewolves, Aliens, Jackalopes, she was fascinated by them all. Granted she didn't think they were real, even if a part of her wanted them to be real. Patricia was a Science Teacher after all, she didn't believe in the supernatural. She just thought it was fun to study.

If people could obsess over Star Trek and Lord of the Rings, she could obsess over Vampires and Werewolves.

Sure, some of her co-workers thought it was kind of strange. Why would a STEM Major be obsessed by the Occult? Among her co-workers, the only one who didn't give her strange looks was one of the History Teachers, Beatrice Reid. In fact, Beatrice seemed to know even more about the occult than Patricia did. She just didn't advertise it as much. Beatrice even helped her to get a Silver Sword, and not some display piece either but a genuine Sword with a real blade and everything! Still, Patricia knew that all of this was just for fun. It wasn't like monsters were real or anything.

Or that is what Patricia thought, until one warm summer evening when two of her students appeared on her front porch, one of them bleeding from the arm and both looking like they had just seen a ghost.

Turns out they hadn't seen a ghost, but rather a werewolf. But Patricia didn't know that at first, neither did Mandy or Alice. All Patricia knew was that Alice was hurt and bleeding, and Mandy was babbling about giant wolves. So, Patricia zeroed onto the problem in front of her, cleaning Alice's wounds and giving her some painkillers.

Patricia was about to call an ambulance when she heard a strange noise coming from Alice. To the horror of Patricia and Mandy, they watched as Alice started to transform into a harry wolf-like creature.

In the back of her mind, Patricia felt a sense of excitement. Here was genuine proof that the occult (or some of it anyway) was real! But at the front of her mind, Patricia was thinking that Alice was going to transform into a werewolf and kill the both of them. But then Patricia remembered that she had stockpiles full of obscure occult collectables, and years of studying the occult.

Thinking fast, Patricia ran over to a drawer and grabbed some wolves bane and a silver necklace. With the help of Mandy, Patricia managed to shove some of the wolves bane down Alice's throat and place the silver necklace around her neck.

Thankfully, the silver and wolves bane stopped Alice from transforming and killing both of them. But it didn't seem to remove the curse either. Knowing that she was in over her head, Patricia called the one person she could think of who wouldn't call her completely crazy, Beatrice Reid.

After Patricia contacted Beatrice and told her what was going on, it did not take Patricia that long to arrive at her house. To the surprise of the three women there, Beatrice brought along James. Beatrice didn't give anyone time to ask questions, quickly assessing and taking control of the situation.

Over the course of the next few days, they would solve the werewolf problem. Afterwards they would stick together to team up against other Supernatural incidents.

And that is how an 18-year-old amateur Chosen One, an Initiate of an Ancient Secret Order, a High School Teacher with a strange obsession with the Occult, a Teenage Werewolf, and a Cheerleader Teamed Up.
