You look at Kyler, her eyes pleading, and then at the security guard. The decision is clear; you can't let this ruin her life. You reach into your wallet and pull out your credit card. "Alright, I'll pay." You hand the card over to the guard, trying to keep your voice steady.

The guard nods, a hint of understanding in his eyes. He takes the card and heads inside the office to process the transaction. Kyler sighs with relief, but you can see the guilt etched into her features. "Thank you, Dad," she whispers, her voice trembling.

While you wait, you can't help but feel a mix of anger and disappointment. You've always been proud of Kyler, her independence and strength. But this recklessness, it's unlike her. "What got into you, Kyler?" You ask, trying to keep the frustration out of your voice. "What happen? Why aren't you in college right now?"

She looks down at her feet, the silence thick with unspoken words. "It's complicated, Dad," Kyler says, her voice barely above a whisper. "I had to take a break. I was trying to steal and pay off my student loans. I didn't mean for it to go this far."

"I told you I would pay for your college. I told you not to take out those loans."

She shook her head. "I'm so sorry daddy. I... I should have listened to you and mom."

You bite your tongue, the urge to scold her warring with the need to be supportive. The guard returns with a receipt and a stern look. "You're lucky today. Don't make me regret this," he says, handing you the receipt and keeping the evidence of her crime a secret.

"Thank you," you reply, taking the receipt and stuffing it into your pocket. You look at Kyler saying. "You, me, and Ava will speak about this at home."
