Chapter 29

Does he have something?
Help? No. Accusations and Gaurds? Yes.
The wait takes a while-made all the more unpleasant by this restrictive dress. Still-at least it beats being naked. You'd think the time spent without it would make it not bother me-but this shape still feels like a sorer subject for that. In my natural 'hive of tentacles and vines', hard to even really distinguish what might be a spot that deserves covering up. Maybe time enough for my memories of being humanoid to fade into the background will clear that up good.
There's eventually a knock on the door. Since I'm closer and have jack all to do but get lost in my own thoughts, I open it for the apprentice. A man in a simple set of armor walks in, helmet under his arm. He just shoots me a quick derisive glance before walking past and starting up a hushed conversation with the apprentice-the latter of whom seems to be giving worried glances my way every so often. Something that only stopped when the conversation actually turned to me "Ma'am-you said you had some healing spells, right?" I just give him a nod in return, as he continued. "Well, given the state you were in when you got here, you probably don't exactly have anything ready for compensation for whatever treatment he manages. I'm sure, in lieu of that, you could help him with some difficult cases...?"
Frankly, just happy to have something to do, I eagerly agree, and head back to do so while he kept chatting with the other guy. Taking a look at what I could help with, looks like being in a city meant worse diseases then a small agriculture village. or maybe I just got here at a bad time. Or was there at a good time. With my God's Eyes not functional in this form, I lacked the incredibly handy instant perfect diagnostics, so I was mostly taking shots in the dark as my priestly abilities, which didn't care for form changes, beyond my drastically reduced stats, tried to restore people. Some were injuries-they were patched up good as new and exited immediately. Others, removing their disease still left them with some lingering symptoms that would get better. A few just seemed beyond my help-I guess there cases were enough to not count as 'mundane'.
One of the last that stuck with me was what just seemed like some old dude whose time was coming up. Directing healing into him calmed him down as it eased his pain, but he could still feel he wasn't long. He asked me, as a priest, if I could give him some last rites. Now, while it was true I did have a few rituals in my mind, my patron goddess's nature would render most...not particularly suitable for places not already firmly in her grasp. So instead, I simply decided to make something up-a few motions of my hands gathered from random rites, and some gibberish that was just partial snippets of others. He seemed confused, but convinced as I continued-looking at peace as he closed his eyes.
I could feel a faint sense of amusement as I followed by a flood of recollections. Achievement unlocked, priest level increased, if I had to guess. Unfortunately, I'd have to wait till I was back to my true body to really get a good look at everything. In the meantime, I just headed back up to wait-I'd done more than my fill.
When I got there, the man I'd seen enter earlier was still there-now with his helmet on, as well as a few similarly dressed grunts grunts. He turned to face me. "Ah-hello. Local Guard Captain. This man here told me quite the tale from your would you mind if I asked a few questions of you?" I give a smile and a thumbs up. "Sure-what do you need to know?" He shook his head. "Not here, we have...some place more suited for interviews in mind. If you would come with us?" Two of the grunts didn't outright level spears at me, but they definitely did tilt forward and hold tight in preparation to do so. The captain may have been polite, but this was an order, not an actual question.
