Chapter 5 by bbone

What exactly will she do?

Head to the Main Hall

Jessica worked in a diner. She'd already been around pots and pans and silverware enough this week to last her a lifetime. The siren song of the Main Hall called to her. Plush leather chairs, a stunning crystal chandelier, a grand piano that cost more than her house. She was in one of the most luxurious buildings she'd ever seen. She'd be damned if she spent another second in a kitchen.

The Main Hall is a very comfortable and inviting room of medium size. The ceiling is quite tall, as the room is technically two stories. The grand entrance welcomes contestants to the first floor. It contains not only a beautiful set of twin staircases split by a marble sculpture of the Manor's insignia, but also plays host to a true ebony and ivory grand piano, a grand brass and marble fireplace, and a well furnished seating area. The upper balcony wraps around the entirety of the grand entrance, and sweeps off to the north and south wings. The Main hall hosts readily apparent access to the Front Lawn, the first and second floors of the North and South Wings, the Kitchen, and the Ballroom. There are also secret exists to the Attic, the Basement, and the Wine Cellar.

A wide variety of treasures and helpful tools can be found in the Main Hall. Its traps are few and far between. However, that does not mean it is completely devoid of dangers. The patrol routes of every Manor staff member cross through the Main Hall, either on the top or bottom floors. The Waitstaff, the Maidstaff, the Grounds keepers, the Gardeners, even the House Mistress, all grace the Main Hall with their presence periodically. The room is safe, only for so long as no staff members are present.

Help:

  • Guest pass: These helpful tokens are abundant in the Main Hall. Contestants may use them when confronted by any Manor staff. Once given to the staff member, that faction of the Manor staff will leave the contestant unmolested, or rather only lightly molested, for fifteen minutes. Do note, giving a coin to the maids will not satisfy any other faction, the waitstaff or gardeners will still be obliged to engage unless given a token of their own.
  • Cleaning Rags: One of the silly Maidstaff seem to have left out a few tools of their trade. These chemical soaked rags pack quite the punch, and could easily render someone **** if held under their nose for a few seconds. Hopefully our guest doesn't knock themselves out with these chloroform cloths. Much better to use these to clean-up the competition.
  • Key to the Manor: Solving the Main Entrance's central puzzle will award players with the key to the manor. This powerful object will grant unlimited protection against any and all Manor staff, though they will have no compulsion to aid from this effect alone. The key also reveals all secret entrances/exits of every room to the contestant. Lastly, as it's name might imply, this gift will instantly unlock any doors the owner might stumble across, and instantly disarm any associated traps. Note, chests and drawers and the like will not be affected, only pathways between rooms.
