Head to the Basement

Doug led Scott through the garage and down into the basement. It was really nice. It was all finished, and it had a lot of space. The main room had a bar, TV, pool table, dart board.

“Looks the same as I remember.”

“Yeah, but now It’s mine so my dad won’t yell at us for being down here.”

“Is the liquor still his, or is that yours now?”

“I swear Scott, if you throw up on the pool table again, I’ll bury you in the back yard.”

“That was one time.”

“Or the couch.”

“Okay, that’s fair.”

“Or on the stairs.”

“That was at Kenny’s house, and don’t worry, you get +5 **** resistance when you enlist, I’ll be fine.”

“Great, now I just need to get a third job to pay for your alcoholism.”

Scott laughed again. It felt great to just relax and talk shit with Doug, it had been a while since he’d laughed this much.

“Seriously Doug, thanks for putting me up, and I’m sorry for being a shitty friend.”

“Well, at least you understand that you don’t deserve me.”

Doug took him to his room. It had been a storage room years ago, now it had a bunch of computer stuff in it.

“What’s all this?” Scott asked.

“It’s my second job, building and repairing computers.”

“Cool, you always were good at that.”

“Yeah, and now that I do most of my IT work from home, I can work on the computers when I don’t have calls.”

“Wait, am I sleeping in your office?”

“No, this is just storage and stuff I’m tinkering with, I have an office upstairs where I do the actual work. The futon folds out, I moved my old mini fridge in here, it’s not much, and we can get more furniture for you if you want.”

“This is great, nicer than anywhere I’ve slept for a while.”
