Chapter 4
by Framewalker
Is there anything else, that Bricio wants?
He would like to get to know her better.
"So anyway... I'm just curious, but I gotta ask: You are pretty far away from the elven lands. Why did you travel to Nel, of all cities? It's not exactly one of the biggest ones."
Elyelen looks at him curiously as she thinks about this question herself for a second: "Well... Something happened and I just wanted to be as far away from it all as possible..." She says quietly, but not looking into his eyes so she doesn't have to meet his gaze directly.
Bricio nods understandingly: "I see..." For a moment he remains silent again and Elyelen starts feeling uncomfortable under this scrutiny. What is wrong with her answer?! Does he find what she said strange somehow? Or maybe it is not how she thinks and Bricio just understands that it is an uncomfortable topic that she would rather not talk about right now. At the end of the day, he is a good man and usually treats her with nothing but kindness so far.
"Have you ever actually used a sword? Or another weapon?" The question is sudden and for a moment, the elf is caught off-guard. Her head turns around quickly as she examines him for a moment, trying to figure out what his intention is.
"Not a sword, no. I used to practice archery, but it feels like that was in another life. It is so long ago. Why do you ask, though?" Elyelen does a small gesture with her head. Bricio has noticed it before, whenever she is curious about something, she slightly leans it towards the left.
He knows that this means 'please tell me more' or 'tell me everything'. So this time he answers: "Oh... Well... I have been thinking about teaching you some basics on how to use weapons..."
"Why would I need that?", she asks, once again forgetting about the 'politeness' of letting someone finish his sentence.
"It is always a very good idea to have better knowledge on what you make and sell," he explains, "It does not matter that much when we make lots of weapons for the army or the guards, but it is very important if we get an order from someone important. They will expect us to make a weapon that is perfectly tailored to their needs."
The elf nods as she understands what he says. She still doesn't know why Bricio wants to teach her all these things in general though. The blacksmith just smiles at her: "Don't worry! This is not going to be anything dangerous!" Elyelen relaxes visibly now as she sees that there are no hidden motives behind this request. It makes sense though. If she can actually feel how differently balanced weapons behave she can be much better at her job.
"Also I'll wait with the sword training for a bit longer. There is so much you have to learn first," the blacksmith finally continues, "But enough about work. Have you managed to explore around Nel a lot, already? It's such a big city..."
Elyelen looks up at him curiously again, wondering where this conversation might lead. He has never asked something like this before, and the way he seems to look forward to the answer is strange, but maybe she is once again interpreting too much into a simple, friendly question.
"I have seen some of the bigger parts, yes, but..." She pauses for a moment, thinking about which words to use, "...but nothing really interesting happened." She shrugs and turns back towards the sunrays again.
"You know, I was just asking, because... If you are interested I could show you around a bit."
The elf can't help but blush a bit at the prospect of doing something with her employer, outside of her work. At least she knows him well enough that he would accept if she declined, but on the other hand she does not know many people in the city, yet. And who knows, it could be fun.
"There is a place I am thinking of. It is near the port and you have a good view over the ocean, especially when the sun goes down. It's not very far from here either," Bricio explains while Elyelen nods enthusiastically: "Great! When do we go?"
"Hahaha, I'm afraid we cannot go, yet. It is barely afternoon and there is still some work waiting for us, Elyelen. But afterwards, we can take a look. Is that okay for you?", the blacksmith asks. The young woman smiles happily once more. "Sure, sounds great."
What happens next?
A blacksmith and his apprentice
A generic fantasy world in which a forbidden love emerges
A human blacksmith and his elven apprentice fall head-over-heels in love with each other, but maybe it's better to keep it a secret for now. While it is not unheard of for elves and humans to be in bed with each other, especially the elves scoff at this kind of behaviour.
