Does Mike start the practice off slow and easy?
He skips the basics, but tries not to scare Maya
Mike’s broad hand remained over hers, his thumb continuing its slow, rhythmic stroke against her knuckles. He took a long, quiet breath, letting a heavy pause build between them as if weighing a very serious decision.
"Look, Maya," Mike said, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial, professional whisper. "We've got a good couple of hours before we need to head for the meeting. We shouldn’t waste time practicing simple hand-holding or standing next to each other. Those basic poses are easy—any pair of strangers can fake that."
Maya nodded eagerly, her naive trust in him total, her heart beating fast with the thrill of his grand words about her future modeling career.
"We need to feel comfortable and look just like Leo and you do when your out and about," Mike continued, his eyes holding hers with intense focus, "you’ve probably seen it yourself with couples on TV and in the movies, you can tell when couples do and don't have chemistry. So I want us and try this morning and early afternoon fast track us to that chemistry."
He shifted off his stool, taking a step toward her so that his broad, heavy frame stood right beside her seat. He reached out, gently taking both of her hands and guiding her to stand up.
"Because time is so short, we need to skip the basics and jump straight to the more intimate stages," Mike murmured, his voice smooth and steady. "We need to practice the kind of physical closeness that usually takes couples weeks, even months to get comfortable with each other. That way, when Sarah and David talk to us this afternoon, we can display genuine passion, you won't hesitate, you won't blush awkwardly, and you won't pull back."
Maya stood before him in her floral sundress, her breath catching slightly. The sheer speed at which things were moving sent a flurry of butterflies fluttering through her stomach. A tiny voice in the back of her mind reminded her of Leo held, but she instantly brushed it aside. This isn't personal, she reassured herself, drinking in his serious, fatherly tone. This is just professional preparation. Mike is sacrificing his own time to help me launch my career, and Leo trusts him completely.
"Okay," Maya whispered softly, her green eyes wide and full of complete, innocent reliance as she looked up at him. "What do we do first?"
Mike smiled—a warm, encouraging expression that entirely concealed the dark, triumphant spark dancing in his eyes. "First," he said softly, taking a half-step closer until the toes of his shoes brushed hers, "you need to get used to letting me hold you like you belong to me."
Mike didn't give her time to overthink. He stepped fully into her space, his heavy hands coming up to rest firmly on the narrow curve of her waist. Maya felt the warmth of his fingers pressing through the thin cotton of her sundress, her breath hitching slightly as he pulled her two inches closer.
"Step one is space—or rather, the lack of it," Mike instructed, his gravelly voice dropping into a low, authoritative rhythm. "A loving couple are in each others space, even a tiny gap between two bodies looks like a canyon. You have to learn how to yield to the contact."
Maya nodded nervously, her hands instinctively coming up to rest on his dark polo shirt. His broad chest felt solid and massive beneath her palms, completely unlike Leo’s slim, delicate frame. She forced herself to relax her shoulders, letting her hips align against his as Mike guided her.
"Good," Mike murmured, his heavy hands sliding up from her waist to rest gently on the small of her back, pressing her flush against his broad torso. "Now, lean your head back a little. Look up at me like I'm the only person in the room."
Maya tilted her chin up, her green eyes locking onto his. Up close, she could see the flecks of gray in his eyes and smell the faint, masculine scent of his aftershave. Her heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird, a wild mix of excitement, anxiety, and giddy validation coursing through her veins.
"See how natural that feels?" Mike lied softly, his thumbs lightly stroking her waist through her dress. "You're a natural, Maya. Now we take it to the next step, an embrace, a kiss."
Maya’s eyelids fluttered, a sudden jolt of nervousness shooting down her spine. "A... a kiss?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Look at me, Maya," Mike said smoothly, cupping her cheek with his large, warm hand. "It’s not a real kiss. It’s an actor's kiss—a screen kiss. Think about movie stars in Hollywood, Maya. They’re married to other people in real life, but when the director calls action, they kiss their costars with total passion because it’s their job. It doesn't mean anything personal. It’s just technique so it looks authentic on camera."
His words settled over her like a soothing spell. It's just an actor's kiss, she repeated in her head, clinging to the professional logic. It's just like Hollywood. Leo understands this is for my career.
"Relax your lips," Mike whispered, his thumb brushing over her bottom lip, sending a prickle of electric heat straight to her core. "Don't fight it. Just let it happen."
Before her naive mind could raise another objection, Mike leaned down and brought his mouth over hers.
It wasn't a gentle brush of lips. Mike took full advantage of the moment, deepening the pressure, angling her head back as he pressed his body firmly against hers. The kiss was heavy, possessive, and lingering, filling Maya’s head with a dizzying rush of pure sensation. She stood frozen for a second, her hands gripping his shirt for balance, before her misguided commitment to "practicing" made her yield, her lips parting softly as she kissed him back in a wave of breathless, confused surrender.
When Mike finally pulled back a fraction of an inch, his lips hovered just above hers, his heavy breathing warm against her flushed skin. Maya opened her eyes, her head spinning, her cheeks burning crimson, completely breathless and utterly lost in the trap he had so effortlessly sprung.
Maya stood trembling in the quiet living room, her breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps. Her head felt heavy and light all at once, spinning from the sheer intensity of the moment. Her lips felt warm, slightly bruised, and completely tingling from the heavy, lingering pressure of his mouth.
Mike didn't release his grip on her waist. Instead, he kept his large hands anchored firmly against her hips, letting her feel the full weight and stability of his presence while her mind tried to process the dizzying rush of endorphins.
"See?" Mike whispered, his low, gravelly voice buzzing softly against her ear as he smoothed a stray lock of red hair behind her shoulder. "You handled that amazingly, Maya. But do you feel how tense your shoulders were at the start? How your hands grabbed my shirt like you were bracing for impact?"
Maya looked down, her face flushed a deep, burning crimson. She gave a small, hesitant nod. "I... I guess I was a little surprised," she admitted, her voice breathy and timid. "It felt so... real."
"And that’s exactly why we can't stop," Mike murmured smoothly, his tone shifting back into that masterfully calculated blend of stern director and protective mentor. "We need to work on on this some more, they will spot the awkwardness in a heartbeat. Real chemistry doesn't look surprised, Maya. It looks relaxed. It looks second nature."
He gently took her hand, his thick fingers weaving through hers with practiced ease, and looked toward the soft, plush sofa in the living room.
"Come on," Mike suggested, taking a slow step backward and drawing her along with him. "Let's move over to the couch"
Maya allowed herself to be guided across the rug, her naive mind completely wrapped in the artificial logic he had built around her. Her devotion to Leo and their strict boundaries felt strangely distant, muffled beneath the overwhelming weight of Mike’s praise, his fatherly authority, and her own intoxicating desire to prove she had what it took to be a real model.
"We’ll practice on the couch until we both feel completely comfortable," Mike said softly, ushering her down onto the soft cushions before settling his heavy frame right beside her, closing every inch of space between them. "By the time we walk into that agency meeting this afternoon, you’re going to be so natural that no one will ever doubt you."
