He runs for it

The mage had been looking away not keen on watching the goblin as he fertilized the forest. After finishing, Gob took this golden opportunity to escape. He undid the collar and made a mad dash deeper into the forest. The mage yelled out in frustration as he realized too late what was happening. The man ran after the goblin for a brief moment. But Gob had a head start, could see better in the reduced light, and ran faster than the mage. The man quickly abandoned the thought of chasing after the goblin and yelled out, "Fuck it. Go die for all I care!"

After feeling like he had ran far enough away, Gob leaned up against a tree to take a breath. He panted for breath and his heart was pounding against his chest. Now deep in the forest and taking a moment to relax the sounds of nature caught his attention. The rustling of leaves, various bugs and bird noises, and rushing water. The goblin didn't know much, but he knew on an instinctual level that he must be near a river. He pushed off the tree and headed in the direction of the sound. A nice drink of water sounded good after the full sprint run.

It was just a short walk to the river. Downstream Gob saw a deer taking a drink and when the deer noticed him it took off into the forest. This place was full of life and movement. It was the complete opposite of the dungeon he came from. He appreciated all the new sights and sounds as he walked up to take a drink.

After having quenched his thirst, Gob's instincts continued to guide him. He knew a safe place to sleep would be important to his survival. Images of caves came to mind. But he had not seen any on his run through the forest. So finding a cave became his new priority. And a good way to defend himself and whatever would be his new home.

In the dungeon he had a crude spear for a weapon, but at the moment he just had his teeth and claws. They were better than nothing, but an actual weapon would do much better. He didn't know how to make any weapons, but an adventurer had no use for their gear in ****. There was no telling if he would find a random corpse to loot and didn't like his odds in killing someone himself. So while he didn't have high hopes for acquiring a weapon, he did keep an eye out for any bodies to scavenge.

Magic was another option. Or at least it would be if he knew how to do any. Thanks to the knowledge imparted from the pendant he had a very basic idea about magic. Unfortunately, it was not enough to actually do something with. Or was it? Sure he didn't know any spells, but he thought maybe he could do something really basic with his mana. Trying to just use raw mana as a projectile attack was worth a attempt he thought. Such an application shouldn't require any knowledge of magical abilities.

Gob's monster instincts helped him once more. On an intuitive level he knew how to feel and use his mana. He pointed at a nearby tree and imagined a build up of energy before it would shoot forth. Slowly a tiny blue orb of light formed just in front of his finger. With a grunt and a small thrust foward of his hand the ball of mana shot forth. With an audible crackle it impacted against the tree and left a minuscule ident roughly half the size of the mana used to attack. It wasn't much, but he thought it was better than nothing. A well aimed shot could still be very useful.

Gob turned his focus to wandering around in search of a cave. Daytime would not last forever and in this forest the light from the moon would hardly be better than pure darkness. Also something told him that things would be more dangerous at night. He just knew that he should not be out and about after nightfall.
