Chapter 20 by lightsout lightsout

What's next?

He makes it that Jaime is unmarried.

“Lady Jaime never married Ser Edmure Tully. She is unwed, serving solely as Cersei’s lady-in-waiting and body double, and always has been.” Jon stated.

The air shimmered, a soft ripple spreading from Jaime like a pebble breaking a still pond. Her attire shifted subtly—the ruby choker gleamed brighter, the gown simplifying into a more practical cut, still rich with Lannister crimson but unadorned by the marital sigils that had faintly embroidered its hem.

Her posture remained elegant, but a weight seemed lifted, the faint lines of tension around her eyes easing as if a burden had dissolved. New memories slotted into Jon’s mind: Jaime, ever the loyal twin, had escaped Tywin’s marriage schemes, her value as Cersei’s double outweighing any alliance through wedlock.

Their father the Warden of the Westerlands, Lord Tywin had kept her at court, a shadow to the queen, her presence a constant shield and mirror, no husband to complicate their bond.

Queen Cersei blinked, her trance-bound gaze unchanged, but her voice carried a new note of relief when Jon evaluated the shift. “Is Lady Jaime married?”

“No,” the Queen replied, flat but certain. “My sister remains unwed, bound to me as my lady-in-waiting. Father saw no need for a match when her loyalty serves the crown so well. She’s my mirror, my confidante, always at my side.”

With a subtle nod, Lady Jaime affirmed the words, her voice mirroring her sister's certainty. “I’ve no husband, no ties beyond Cersei. I serve as her double, her shadow in court, and nothing more. It’s always been so.”

Relief washed over Jon as he let out a slow breath, the tension in his chest easing at last. Edmure was liberated now, untouched by the shadow of betrayal, his future unmarred by the Lannisters' schemes.

The throne’s heirs stood legitimate, the incestuous stain confined to the sisters’ hidden bond, a sin less likely to topple kingdoms without false heirs to fuel the fire. Yet the power’s ease worried him—each use felt smoother, tempting him to wield it again, to reshape more than he should.

Now what will Jon do?
