Chapter 27

Does the zookeeper pay Willow, or renege and call the cops?

He keeps his word, but…

“Tell you what,” the director smiled, “I’d normally wouldn’t do this, but our visitors have never been happier! I’d never expected there’d be lines just to get a photo with “Tiana”, so I’ll pay you your first month’s pay ahead. Mind giving us your contact info, and signing your employee contract?” He’d handed her a form.

“Thank you so much, sir!” She’d eagerly filled out the form and contract. It was admittedly hard to do so without her glasses, but she’d make out her contract by keeping it away from her, making sure it wasn’t a written confession, a liability form, or just dishonest contract. She’d continued to fill out her contact info, but then she’d made out a horrifying discovery.

“Bank account… let me check my card number for a sec.” She’d reached out for her forehead, and finally noticed it. Her headband and bank card were gone!

“Stupid question,“ a sheepish smile entered Willow’s face, “but was I wearing a headband when I came here?”

“No.”

“Crap!”

Thinking back, there are too many moments she could’ve lost it. The store, the dump, the trailer park, the carwash. Way too many opportunities.

“I’ll have one more favour for you, and it’s a choice.” Spoke the director. “I”ll either go to a ATM and give it to you in cash, or I”ll give you a ride home.”

Which does she take?
