He grabs hold of you!

Justin seizes your forearm with surprising strength, and you bellow, trying desperately to wrench yourself free. ‘As your medical records will show – when I leak them to the press – you knew perfectly well a year ago that you’d contracted HIV. The virus hasn’t yet developed into full-blown AIDs, but it’s only a matter of time, which you would certainly have known.’

Justin squeezes your arm expertly, hunting for a vein. ‘Something else you would have known is that having sexual intercourse with any other individual – that is, without telling them first – is tantamount to grievous bodily harm in most states. In fact, I believe there have been several successful prosecutions on exactly those grounds already. Condoms are better than nothing, but they sadly aren’t foolproof, especially if you didn’t always use them… which, I imagine, you did not.’

Your silence is as good as a confession. Justin laughs happily.

‘Really? How naughty of you both. And now, sadly, that chicken is coming home to roost. Once this story breaks, Emma will have **** but to believe you knowingly exposed her to one of the most horrible, debilitating diseases on earth – and you did it more than once. You lied to her, and not only that, you put her in danger of ****. Now, transmission isn’t guaranteed – even if you have repeated intercourse with the victim – so perhaps Emma’s been very, very lucky. In fact, I imagine she has. But the same cannot be said for you. And I very much doubt your relationship will survive the revelation.’

A drop of blood from your leg splashes onto your nose, as you stare defeatedly at the ground.

‘But if I were you, I wouldn’t worry too much about the survival of your relationship. Not when your, ah, personal survival…’ Justin coughs. ‘Well, when that’s very much in question.’

The needle hovers over your arm, inches from dropping. ‘Ordinary HIV is bad enough, you might think. But this…’ Justin taps the syringe again. ‘This is a highly-concentrated, undiluted compound intended exclusively for use in the lab. It cost me a little over sixty thousand dollars to acquire and I think it’s going to be worth every penny.’

Above you, ****-Soo sniggers appreciatively. ‘Once I inject you with this, I’d say you have about a fifty-fifty chance of living until you’re sixty,’ Justin says, brow furrowed in concentration. ‘You’ll have to take a bottle of pills every day for the rest of your life, and you’ll never run a mile or fuck another celebrity. The best you can hope for is a silent, lonely existence on the fringes of society, once the initial furore has died down and people have forgotten your face. That is… if they forget. People do rather like Emma Watson, you know.’ Justin sighs. ‘As I found out first-hand after cheating on her. One of my rare mistakes.’

‘I’ll tell her everything,’ you snarl, straining to keep your arm away from the needle. ‘I’ll tell everyone what happened. You’re insane if you think you can get away with this.’

Blood runs down your face as Justin smiles down at you, almost sadly. ‘Oh, James. By all means. Tell everyone, tell Emma – and watch as they decide they don’t believe you. Those medical records are just the icing on the cake. What’s more likely? That you were kidnapped by a sociopath on top of a mountain, tied up and injected? Or… perhaps… that you caught something nasty off a whore and were too ashamed to tell your famous girlfriend?’
