He does more research

John needed a moment to think. This was all… well, a bit much. If he really, truly was going to believe that this wasn’t all the result of a brain tumour or something, then it meant that he’d experienced something that—to his knowledge—was unprecedented in human history.

Or… was it? He’d been assuming that the lack of verifiable search results meant this was a phenomenon unique to him, but… if he wasn’t planning on telling anyone (and he wasn’t), then why should he assume anyone else was? This could have been happening constantly for all he knew.

Fuck, it was this same issue again and again; the sheer unknowability of his situation. If there were other people out there who’d gone through this, then maybe he should be talking about it. Surely he’d eventually stumble across someone to whom this whole scenario sounded familiar?

No; more likely one of his friends or family members would just call a wellness check on him and he’d end up in some psych ward. This would have to be kept to himself.

Actually, were wellness checks still a thing now? He googled it quickly. They were.

Many things seemed to still be the same; further searching indicated world history was largely unchanged, for example. Some of the details were different to be sure (he was fairly sure that Caesar hadn’t been a five-foot-two twink, and that his conquests hadn't been motivated by the search for ‘fat barbarian dick’) but the broad strokes remained. Politics, likewise, followed a familiar outline. It was like watching a familiar movie but with a handful of different plot-points or lines of dialogue. And most of the male actors now wore miniskirts and couldn’t look at the burly action hero without making a mess in their panties. Something like that.

Something like that.

John sighed, then refocused on his laptop. If he was going to live in this new world (or, this changed world? He needed to nail down his terminology), then he ought to have more than a cursory idea of what life was like.
