He Resists

I hesitated, during which time Myev was poised to strike.

I tackled her before she could let loose.

“What the fuck?” She shouted, annoyed and confused.

“I won’t let you hurt them. I won’t let you!” I insisted.

“Ruhk! Ruhk!” She was saying but it was too late.

One of the adventurers impaled me through my chest with their sword. I had just enough consciousness left to see another one push the end of his sword between Myev’s eyes.

“Fucking monsters,” I heard them say. They laughed and returned to their song and drink while I drifted into death.

When I woke up again, I was one of those sea turtles who lived for hundreds of years. I spent the rest of my days doing sea turtle things. Life wasn’t too bad.

I hoped I could reincarnate as a sea turtle next time, too.
