Chapter 3 by comfygamer comfygamer

Who is the protagonist and what are the details of their decision?

Haven the shapeshifter

There was some time in between finalizing their selection and their soul being planted in their new body. With nothing else to do in the mean time, they looked over the what was chosen. It seemed unreal. No longer in a hurried panix, they thought everything must simply be a dream inspired from the various media they had been enjoying. So, with a mental shrug, they thought they would just go along with things and have fun. Unaware of the reality they would have to face and how impactful the rushed decision would affect them.

There apparently was a budget of points that had been automatically allocated . Thinking back, deities seemed to give more or less points than others. From what litter was read before a snap decision was made, some deities had stricter requirements. It seemed likely to be an incentive for otherwise less desirable deities to serve.

The monster deity came with a lot of points. Now taking the time to read, a few bold warning stuck out. One was that monstrous species are often discriminated against in many areas to varying degrees and that being one was a requirement. Not taking things seriously, a mental eye roll was had, as they were unconcerned about discrimination within what was presumed to be a dream.

There was further warning that "feral" monsters would attack all the same. And a high priority requirement was to influence a kingdom into being more friendly and accepting to non-feral monsters, or create such a kingdom.

Looking at the actual options selected, they didn't seemed to be all locked in quite yet. The deity and race could no longer be changes, but some detailed looked like they could still be changed. At seemingly random, while looking things over, more would get locked in. Thankfully at a glance things looked good and like things they would choose anyway. The first thing to get picked in after deity and race, was an inclination towards magic.

It seemed like it was starting with the foundation for their new body and once fully set, couldn't be changed. This caused a bit of frustration, but it seemed like a waste of effort to get mad. Plus couldn't focus on changing things they still could if too busy grumbling over what was anyway done.

Looking over perks, many species specific ones were available to him. Apparently being a shapeshifter had some nice potential benefits. Though aslso ate up a lot of the points budget. Focusing 9n enjoyment over practicality, a few choices with lewd potential were picked up. Those being their body producing universally effective pheromones, universal cross breeding, and high sexual stamina. It was labeled the "Sex Demon Starter Package".

After that, they spent the majority of points on a few key perks with seemingly better practical application. Operating on video game logic due to the GUI he was using, he figured his initial stats could be improved without much trouble. Whereas perks could be difficult or impossible to gain later on. Even if they weren't taking things seriously, they were still a min/max loving nerd.

Perks

Magical talent: Boosts the power of magic based abilities and ignore or reduce requirments/difficulty for learning new magic based abilities.

Dual class specialist: Fully benefit from two classes simultaneously.

Synergistic bindings: On top of any other effects, permanent binding between you and others bound to you receive a boost in power based on a small fraction of the others base power.

The perks seemed like potentially significant boons. Definitely more straight forward in its bonus than how much of an effect Stat Point allocation would have. Without a reference point, they had no clue if a number twice as big equated to twice as much in practical use. Or if things had some kind of logarithmic or exponential scaling to things. Possibly even having a soft cap to effectiveness. So rather than dumping everything into one focal point that might not pay off, a spread of points around with a mild focus on the magic side of things was the finishing touch to cap things off.
