Chapter 4 by zankoo zankoo

Which apartment does Danny watch?

Granderson, 3 Right: Laundry Girl

Danny probably spent more time watching Laundry Girl than anyone else in The Barkley. She lived on the third floor, like he did. His angle was almost completely direct, a straight shot across the street.

Also, Laundry Girl was the first person he saw across the way after he moved into his own building. It was maybe his second or third day in the neighborhood, and he casually glanced out the window -- and there she was, standing in her window, folding shirts. She had a basket on the floor, she'd pull out a shirt, fold it in the air, and place the folded shirt on the window seat. He probably watched eight or ten shirts before realized he'd been watching. She never made any indication of seeing him. She just folded her shirts, then scooped them up, and disappeared into the background.

Laundry Girl was young, mid 20s. He thought she might be Asian, but he wasn't certain. She was thin and attractive, and she often sat in her window seat either reading, writing, or talking or playing on her cell phone. One thing he noticed right away was that she never really seemed to look out the window herself. Not much, anyway.

He called her Laundry Girl because he named all the strangers across the street. She was certainly more than just laundry, of course, but the name was the name. And of all the people in the two buildings across the way, she was his favorite subject.
