Going through pop ups

Now that the girl wasn’t in any immediate danger and having nothing else to do you decided it was time to go through the popups you got earlier as well as read the tutorial for any usefull information you might have missed.

Luckily every pop up you dismissed was in a new icon on your hud so they were easy to trace back. They were ordered from most recent to most distant.

So first things first: crafting recipe unlocked: [tier 1 healing pot]

According to the tutorial crafting recipes are unlocked simply by trying new things out or by having somebody else teach them. Special quests are an exception to this rule. Your healing pot was made from a tier 2 ingredient (how good certain materials are at specific tasks makes their tier, so while your red lavender is only a tier 2 healing item it can be a tier 4 coloriser). Even though it was made from a tier 2 ingredient due to poor preperation it only worked as effective as a tier 1.

A tier 1 healing pot would still be revolutionary back on earth as it can instantly seal non lethal wounds. Tier 2 would seal and even restore the wound. Tier 4 would instantly heal the wound, tier 5 would be able to instantly regrow your arm. But aside from the heroes there’s only a small cart of tier 5 potions in the entire world, they require rare materials and would be considerd the life’s work of a professional alchemist (many retire after making one as they are rich enough for it and they likely will never top this point in their career).

So yeah, anything above a tier 2 healing pot will likely never be used by common folk, and anything above tier 3 is only really used by royalty.

Next up: why was the amputation necessary?

Tis has to do with how humans have evolved on this world. Due to the existence of magic the body never really goes into damage control mode as most wounds can be regenerated with enough magic. However if the patient has no more magic then life **** (HP) gets used as a substitute. This is also the basis for blood magic.

The only time the body goes into damage control is when a keypoint gets completly seperated from the circuit.

What are keypoints? You can imagine them like chakras. They are little organs that regulate the flow of mana in living creatures. Humans generally have 3 in every limb (1 at the hand/foot, 1 at the joint, and 1 connecting to the torso). Slimes are unique in that they only have 1.

Interestingly humans only have 1 lung in this world. The place where the second one would be is replaced by an organ that collects mana from the air around them and a cluster of these keypoints. Meanwhile the stomach is also smaller and has made for an organ that transforms mana into oxygen, vitamins, proteines etc.

So altough humans look mostly the same their internals have evolved differently due to the presence of magic which can apparantly substitute nearly everything.

This worlds evolution is highly catered towards high level individuals, and if this was like any other RPG you can see why: packbonding doesn’t help if you need a thousand lvl 1 creatures to take down 1 level 50.

So TL:DR you has to disconnect the keypoint in her arm otherwise blood magic and shitty evolution would end up killing her.

So if MP is so important to survival, how do you regenerate MP?

Most creatures have evolved an organ to absorb MP from the air around them, simmilar to lungs. Plants have some cyan or blue leaves (altough plants still mostly rely on photosynthesys). Tree’s have different colored leaves depending on the season: during the winter they shed their old one’s and grow blue leaves instead. Water has a lot of MP so weirdly enough fish can cast the most spells. Because of this sailling doesn’t really exist in this world, and neither does fish as a major food source.

So how do you as a slime aquire mana? Well turns out slime are fairly unique. Most types of slime don’t naturally aquire mana but nearly their entire body is storage for it. They gain mana from consuming organic materials with magic enzymes to extract the mana from them. The reason you didn’t get any from consuming the cultists arm is because she had no more MP left, you were draining her blood basically.

So because slimes dont naturally generate mana they are one of the only creatures in this world that have fat. Or ar least a magical equivelant of it. This odd quirk allows them to survive in any enviroment where other creatures live. Its also how they perform mitosis: by giving some of their magic fat reserves to their other half.

Now whats going on with that slime biology?

A slime exists of 3 mayor parts.

1) the membrane. It allows slimes to either block or allow things entering their body. It also gives them very high magic resistance due to blocking most non mana things and splitting a spell up into its magical and non magical components.

2) fat. As discussed before its how a slime stores mana. Its also why they are soft to the touch, bouncy, and sought after as low tier medicinal ingredients. Due to it being almost entirely solid mana its good for people healing, and rather nutricious. Theoretically it can be harvested ethically (like shearing a sheep) but since there are so many slimes and animal/monster rights aren’t a thing they just get slaughterd by the thousands.

3) a core. Its actually just an oversised keypoint. It acts as the brain of the slime, the heart of the slime, and the DNA storage of the slime. So pretty important for all things survival. Its protected from harm by the enviroment and a thick coat of magic fat. A slime doesn’t take damage to his HP unless the core is attacked (meaning you can lose as much magic fat as you want). However due to the core being so important its basically a game over if it gets attacked.

Altough certain species of slime “such as the iron ball variant) have a protective layer on their core its still considerd the weak point of all slime.

Because of this cutting weapons are the preferred weapon for hunting slimes as a light tap on the core is enough to destroy it, and the sharp edge can easily cut through the magic fat. Impact weapons meanwhile are basically useless.

The only reasons slimes are still around is because of their incredibly adaptable membrane (can be either very cold or heat resistant), ability to quickly spread and a small amount of strong variants.

So the core is “you” it where you see, think, cast spells, split and much more. Protect is at costs no matter what, even if you lose 90% of your mass you must protect your core.

Oke, thats all the history/informational/lore of this world out of the way (for now).

Next up:

Unlocks.

Aside from the healing pots you noticed another crafting recipe: explosive (small). So that was part of your sorcerer ability.

The other thing you saw which excited you greatly: creation (plants): [1/1000]. If that was what you thought it was then you were going to absolutly ruin this worlds economy.

And finally:

Quests

As you said before there’s a ton of quests, like to many to keep track.

They range from: “look around” and “get out of bed” to “slay the heroes” and “command a continent”. Interestingly it seemed like there wasn’t a single quest that could only be completed once. Some had ridiculously long timers before they could be repeated (millenia for some) but they could all be repeated.

Regardless you already completed a whole bunch of them (mostly tutorial and daily quests) and when you claimed your reward you got a ton of EXP. Or at least: you thought it was a ton, you had nothing to compare them to.

Still by the time you finished claiming the tutorial and daily quests you were already monster level 3, though your sorcerer level was still stuck at one.

And you because of that you unlocked a new perk:

Adaptability-> allows your membrane to adapt to the temperature around you. Adaptation takes 6 hours per 1 degree kelvin changed. Once completed you can change your resistance at wil (takes 10 minutes). You cannot be resistant to both high and low temperature at the same time.

You also unlocked 2 abilities:

Morph-> allows the user to transform the shape of his body however he wants. The Mass of the user cannot change, any body parts not connected to the core cannot be controlled and will slowly lose HP. The shape of the users core cannot change.

Mitosis-> Allows the user to grow another core within their body which can later be split into a copy of the self. Note: normally the copy would be an exact replica, but due your duality you may choose to make them mindless instead by infusing them with mana.

You were rather excited about using this new mitosis ability but remembered a tiny detail that the gods spoke of: “sometimes we have to cull the slime population”. Once you made your first copy you had no doubt that he would continue splitting himself. If they split to fast you might lose control of the situation, or they might not consider you their master (if they even assumed that in the first place). begrudingly you shelfed that plan, at least for now.
