Chapter 4

What is on the other side?
Goblins, lots of them
Skavel kicked the doors wide open and light flooded the hall, revealing a small hoard of goblins, the little green men wielding everything from knives and small crude swords to a few poor souls armed with wooden clubs and odd tools, Rein snorted at the sight of one with a frying pan.
All throughout the main hall of the keep stood near seventy goblins all staring at the two women at the entrance with one clear desire, only seeing the womanly part of them not the harden warriors they were.
With one mighty roar the hall burst to life as Skavel hoisted her claymore and cleaved the nearest goblin in two with one mighty swing.
Rein and Skavel both marched forward as the hoard swarmed around them and before long Skavel was swinging through several, ignoring their attempts to harm her and most lacked anything to breach her armor.
Rein meanwhile stood at Skavels back with her shield up, hacking down any goblin that came near her or Skavel while she did the heavy lifting, still a steady pile of bodies started to pile up behind Skavel and Rein kept the pests back, cracking another goblins head with her shield when he leapt at her.
Skavel lead the fight to the center of the hall as the goblins fully encircled them but seemed to back of slightly, having already lost nearly a third of their total might in the first bout.
Skavel chuckled as she hacked through the last goblin in range of her claymore before lowly chanting, "Come, die whelps, come die to Skavel, come die to Rein, come, come and die the warriors ****."
The goblins seemed to hesitate at the blood soaked woman and her speech and in that moment Skavel and Rein both surged forward at the goblins for a second bout, followed by the sound of metal ripping skin, crushing bone, high shrill screams and war cries in the northern tongue.
Every swing brought another ill-equipped goblin to the ground, every step forward pushed the green skinned creatures back against the wall until the last scant few were massacred against the stones of the keep.
As the last goblin fell at Skavels feet a victorious roar rang out into the keep, marking the northerners well earned victory.
"A fine fight, it has been to long... surely the gods will be pleased with us this day." Skavel cheered, hoisting her massive sword over her shoulder
Rein took several deep breaths and looked around at the slaughter, "Goblins, different from the goblins in the north, more feral... ...this is going to suck cleaning up." Rein stated prodding one of the goblins Skavel had cleaved in two.
"Worth it, the castle is ours... does that technically make us the ladies of the castle?" Skavel asked striding around the hall, assessing the room and off-shooting doors that lead deeper into the keep.
"I think to be called ladies we would have to own the castle by legal means, gifted by royalty, inheritance or some such political thing."Rein replied moving to the head of the hall where an old oak table laid, with various bits of the goblins garbage littered about, is seems that the hall was their main room, given the piles of random items strewn about.
Glancing over the table Rein threw a few bits and pieces to the floor, catching Skavels attention, pulling a piece of parchment from the table Rein grinned at the find.
"A map." Rein declared, hearing Skavel approach behind her, casting her eyes over the map Rein picked out Litos inked into the top right of the map, confirming the maps identity.
Placing it on the table She and Skavel spent the next few minutes picking through all the names and drawn indicators for terrain until Reins eyes locked in on the small image of a castle and confirming the surrounding region picked out where they were, "Triven Castle."
"That puts us at the western border of Litos, further west would put us in the kingdom of... Ronwa, and all these little border towns, Killeik, Uppla, Bethorl and Targlis. A few days march from us." Skavel muttered before looking elsewhere on the map.
"And I can't say what this is further south but the icon is strange, maybe a settlement sight or religious sight? I see others in the region as well one past the towns to the east and another south east." Rein pointed out to the symbols that bore an odd insignia.
"That is a permit marking, it gives a tribe or nomadic clan rights to settle their, as you can see they border the entire map and never go more then a quarter of the way to the capital, humans in the south are less open to the more bestial races." Skavel explained calmly, having been born a human in an orc clan had given her insight into such matters.
"Okay then, dump the goblins over the wall, sleep, eat and set off tomorrow for one of these places, we need information now." Rein muttered before pushing back from the table.
