Chapter 20 by brambank brambank

Who should Leanne go with?

Go with Abbie

Abbie’s apparent urgency made Leanne think she should see what the young blonde wanted. “Okay. Let’s go, Abbie.” She gave the doctor a smile and then walked slowly towards the girl by the door. Abbie nodded straight faced and led Leanne out into the corridor. It wasn’t until they were a long way down the hallway that Abbie stopped and turned to face Leanne.

“Sorry, I couldn’t talk to you in there. Not with him listening.” Abbie was peering over Leanne’s shoulder nervously as she kept a watchful eye on the corridor back the way they’d come.

“What is it?” Leanne asked. “Did Dr Seward do something?”

The pretty blonde looked again to check the coast was clear before answering. “He’s… He’s not who he says he is.”

“What do you mean?” responded Leanne urgently.

“I received a call from his office. The real Dr Seward’s office that is.” Abbie hesitated again. Leanne could see it was difficult for her to explain what was happening, but each pause only heightened her own growing concern. “They told me they hadn’t heard from the doctor in months and were wondering if we knew anything. When I told her the doctor had been here they asked for a description. That’s when they sent me a photo.” Abbie stopped again and looked like she might burst into tears at any moment. “It was… The photo was of an older man. In his fifties I think. But it wasn’t this Dr Seward.”

“Who-Who is he then?” Now it was Leanne’s turn to panic and she stared wide-eyed at the blonde. Her mind began replaying all of the disturbing things she’d just done at the request of the medic and wondering exactly what she’d become involved in. She felt the hallway begin to spin and she reached out to support her body against the nearest wall.

“I don’t know,” answered Abbie softly. Leanne remembered that she too had been caught up in the doctor’s antics and was probably just as embarrassed about it as she was. “Either way, we have to stay away from him and stop him seeing any of the residents.”

“Have you called the police?” queried Leanne. She was trying desperately to think of what to do, but she was too preoccupied with what she’d already done.

“I asked the receptionist to do it, but I had to get to you first. I knew you were with him and I didn’t want him doing anything else to you.” Abbie seemed genuinely sorry for getting Leanne involved but the young woman knew it was already too late for that. “Why don’t you stay here for a bit?” suggested Abbie. “That way you’ll be out of the doctor’s way and at least you can rest. You look like you need it.”

Abbie opened a door to a nearby room and gestured for Leanne to enter. She stood motionless in the doorway, her eyes moving from the blonde to the room and back again. Leanne had no reason not to trust Abbie, but with this new information she was suddenly feeling a lot more cautious. Alone in an unknown room anything could happen to her, Dr Seward, or whoever he was, could even find her and do more unspeakable things to her. Maybe she’d be better sticking with Abbie for now, it would be better than being alone at least.

What should Leanne do?
