Go to School

Your local school is no big whoop. It's fairly small in size but big enough to where you've gone unnoticed by pretty much everyone over the course of your attendance. For many years, you have wished that you could move districts or even switch to homeschooling. But given mom's work, there would never be a chance for either scenario to occur. Things will be different now. You've made the active decision in your head to make them different. Moping and complaining does nothing, this school is what you've got.

You step off the bus in front of the outer walkway to the same crowd of students you see everyday. A sea of people with their own plans, cliques, and relationships. You feel safe in this crowd; Maybe a little anxious to be seen but the concealment means nobody can pick on you. As you walk through the front doors and b-line for your locker, you see someone leaning against it looking around. It's Emma, your best friend since the first grade. You could always rely on her to give you company here. Nobody really understood why the two of you were so close, she was pretty and popular after all. But that's the way things have always been.

Emma: "Oh there you are Cedge!"

You: "Hey Emma, what's up?"

She was someone you'd spent many late nights considering. Her body was outstanding and her face was gorgeous. Years ago you almost asked her out but became shy in the moment, not wanting to ruin a perfect friendship. Now she had a boyfriend, Steve. He was insanely cool and loved hanging out with the two of you. Feelings aside, you were happy she found Steve.

Emma: "Same old same old, just waiting for your tardy ass to get here haha."

You: "Not my fault this time, Veronica and mom were arguing this morning."

Emma: "Oh shit, everything alright?"

You: "Yeah, just something about college. You know how mom gets..."

Emma: "Trust me, I know. Remember when my parents were in their little 'dispute'? Ms. Davenport wanted to adopt me right then and there."

You: "Haha yeah, she's something."

Emma: "Damn! We're gonna be late for English, come on."

You and Emma take off as the hallway disperses and everyone finds their classes. Your first course of the day is English, probably your favorite for a... number of reasons...
