Go find the reward

Neither of you spoiled the moment by talking. Jeff has a new spring in his step and you felt a positive glow for giving it to him.

The two of you follow the path for a few minutes until it opens up into a clearing where Brian is already there, digging in the loose earth. The sun had totally gone down. At first Brian didn't see you two coming, he seemed pretty engrossed in his task. Something about watching him work diligently was very appealing to you.

Jeff breaks the silence and alerts him to your presence.

Jeff : "Living up to the grounds keeper uniform I see"

Brian pushed the shovel into the dirt where it stayed firm and looked up, flashing a winning smile.

Brian : "I guess so, you both know I've never done much work with my hands but there was a sign saying to dig here for the treasure and it's actually pretty relaxing. Helps that the dirt here is unnaturally loose, like digging in wet sand."

Jeff : "Really, let me try"

The two boys took turns digging until they found a cartoonishly cliche treasure chest and hauled it up. Brian tried to open it but it held fast shut.

Alexis : "I think because it was Jeff's card he needs to be the one to open it"

Wordlessly Brian moved out of the way and Jeff tried his hand at the latch. Turned out your hunch was right and it sprang open effortlessly.
