Giving it a shot

You felt underdressed. You were just in khakis and a polo while Brenna had worn a relatively formal (and very sexy) outfit. "I'm surprised you reached out to me, John. I know Tegan hates me." She kept her eyes on the papers she was flipping through. She seemed unbothered by her own statement.

"To be fair, you did bully her all through school," you corrected before sipping your coffee.

"Is that how you remember it...? Interesting. Either way, we're not here to talk about that. You're paperwork looks good. All of your I' dotted and T's crossed. If this is something you are serious about, then I'm all-in." She closed the folder and slid it back to you. "But I need to know that you won't abandon this if and when things become difficult."

You couldn't help but appreciate the way she held herself. It was like talking to another lawyer. "One of the reasons I left this town was due to the amount of people hiring me and then giving up once Jake turned the screws on them. We can win this, but I need to know that you're committed. Over the next few months, this will consume our time. So, with that in mind, are you willing to take this to the top with me?"

It was a fair question. It was one you would ask a client who was contemplating their case. "I'm a lawyer and that comes with its own set of preconceptions. But I want this place to succeed; it's where we grew up. I also really want to fuck Jake over."

"You and everyone else," Brenna rolled her eyes. "Plenty of men would come to me to help them take down Jake after he fucked their wife or something... It was always short-sighted ****." Brenna hopped up from her side of the both and sat down next to you. "I can tell you've thought about this. You're willing to become the town's good guy, especially if that means becoming Jake's antagonist."

"That's definitely the plan," you remarked, noticing just how much her eyes glowed with excitement. You could tell she was trying to maintain her composure and not lose herself in the potential enjoyment before her.

"Then I'm in. It's going to be a long road and we will need to trust each other. From here on out, we're partners. Our goal is getting your but into that mayoral chair." She was beaming as she sat next to you. It was difficult to imagine her as the same girl who bullied Tegan. She seemed like a completely different person from your memory. "I'll handle the finer details of everything." She rested her hand on your leg, "just know that you're in good hands. I'll take great care of you and we'll get this done!"
