Chapter 55 by takacube takacube

Getting a welcome distraction

Arron took a bit of time to compose himself as he stood by the door leading into the conference room. It was the first major meeting he was going to be attending as the newly hired director and the staff, though thinned a bit due to the end of the term, was still substantially made up of some graduate students working on next term's lesson plans and a group of teachers and other administrative staff. Cynthia had assured him that she would be leading the meeting, all he would need to do was make his introductions and then find a seat near the back to take some notes, but public speaking was a bit of an issue, especially since he was, for all intent, a man in drag pretending to be a woman. How could he get out of that if someone found out?

"Feeling a bit down, Mrs. Andrews?"

He looked back as Richard stepped in closely behind him, not exactly pinning him against the door but violating all normal sense of personal space. "Um..."

"Nervous? I can help you unwind if you like..."

Arron felt a bit of anger boiling up in him, especially with the way the man seemingly had a thing of not looking in his eyes but used his slight height advantage to peer down his shirt at the pair of breasts before him, oblivious to everything around him. "Excuse me...?"

The young man smiled and patted him on the back, low enough to be close to his ass, before walking into the room. Arron just blinked a bit as he entered, his nervousness gone, and replaced more by the sense of wonder at the gall in that little man.

It still was bothering him afterwards as he sat down with Cynthia and Brooke for lunch. When he spoke to them about what happened, both just exchanged looks at each other before Brooke leaned in to him. "Richard's one of those empty suits, he talks a big game but he doesn't dare act on it. He's probably testing you to see how far you'll go but if you draw a line in the sand, he won't cross it. He's got enough write-ups that one more incident or report, he's gone."

Cynthia nodded. "Let's face it, there are maybe what...5 women now working in that building? He's gone through all four of us and figured he'd give you the once-over too. I'm just glad he has enough sense not to go after our students, that would really make the dean pissed off."

Arron nodded and after throwing away the trash, walked back to his office and after checking over his calendar, took out the grocery list he was working on for that evening's meal. He was determined to test out one of his favorite dishes that Erin loved whenever he made it and was sure it would be good for Michael too, especially with Greta's notes indicating what he liked and didn't like. Sarah, for her part, had simply smiled and said that Michael (the neighbor) would come over to keep her company as she was still recovering at home so there was no rush for him to come back. As if THAT isn't a loaded statement...

"Mrs. Andrews? You have a visitor..."

He looked up at the person standing by the door. "Yes?"

"I hope I'm not disturbing you, are you the mother of Sarah Andrews?"

Mother..."Yes, I am."

The man smiled warmly and ushered from out behind him a young boy and his even younger sister, both of whom were dressed neatly and smiled at him. "I wanted to bring my son here to thank you, for raising such a wonderful young woman. This is Jaydan, the boy your daughter grabbed and pulled out from the street yesterday."

The boy nodded his hello. "Hi..."

"I'm their father, Terrance Howard. I dropped by yesterday at the hospital before you arrived to thank your daughter. I hope I'm not overstepping, I know the E.R. doctor who told me your name. I just had to come by to thank you in person."

Arron shook his head and smiled warmly at the two young kids, waving at the little girl who smiled and waved back at him, before he turned and motioned for them to come in. "You don't need to do that, my daughter was just so relieved that your son was okay."

Terrance returned the smile. "Still, all the same, your daughter saved my son, I can't begin to thank her and you enough." Ten minutes later, after exchanging business cards and a warm round of hugs for the little ones, he left and Arron sighed happily as he sank down into his chair and looked at the window for a few moments.

"Mrs. Andrews?"

He looked back at the door. "Yes?"

"You have a student who is here to see you. She's not on the calendar but she wanted to drop in and speak with you."

Arron nodded and after making sure he looked presentable and his desk was clear, motioned for the senior to come in and have a seat. "How can I help you?"
