Getting Ready

Mr. Carter offered his hand and Scott took it.

“One question Mr. Carter, do you have an iron I can use? I can’t go out in public with a wrinkled uniform.”

“Sure, it’s in the closet in the hall.”

Scott was retrieving the iron and board when Suzie opened her door and saw him.

“How did it go, Scott?”

“It went well, your dad’s a good guy.”

“So he didn’t scare you off?”

“No, I’m afraid you are stuck with me for now.”

She smiled, ran out of her room and hugged him tight. “I’m going to miss you today.”

“We’ll talk tonight, Suzie.”

“Just talk?”

Scott winked at her before heading downstairs to iron his clothes.

Suzie followed him.

“Are you going to iron something?”

“Yeah, my uniform, I can’t wear it out with all the wrinkles in it.”

“Huh, I’ve never seen a guy iron before.”

“Join the military, you’ll see it plenty.”

“I’d rather watch you.”

Scott went downstairs, set up the ironing board and took off his uniform.

“I like this.” She said, running her hands up and down his bare back while he tested the iron temperature.

She reached around and grabbed his dick.

“Um, Suzie, can you not do that while I’m ironing?”

“What if I use my mouth instead?”

“Seriously, hot iron right here.”

“You’re no fun.”

“Neither is a second-degree burn, now be good and go sit down and watch.”

“Scott?”

“Yes Suzie?”

“Do you like me?”

Scott shook his head, a bit shocked.

“You forget what we did last night? You can ask Mrs. Sanders if you don’t.”

“I’m serious Scott, you don’t have to really like someone to have sex with them.”

“Are you asking if I’m serious about us?”

“I guess.” She was starting to sound worried. He wanted to reassure her, but he was also very aware of how fast all this was happening.

Scott turned the iron down and set it down on the board, walking over to Suzie.

“I like you a lot, Suzie. Like enough that it’s kind of scary. I’ve been back for less than one day, and when I left you were 14. It’s way too fast to feel the way I feel.”

She touched his face. “I really like you too.”

He took her hands in his. He wanted to comfort her but they needed to have this talk.

She continued, “To be honest, if you asked me to run off and marry you right now, I’d do it. This just feels like it was meant to be.”

Scott felt his heart sink.

“I know, I feel that too, but I’ve felt that way before, and it didn’t work out.”

“Your ex-wife?”

“Yeah.”

“Can you tell me about her?”

He got up and walked over to resume ironing.

“Not yet, it still really hurts.” Ironing helped him distract himself from the more unpleasant things he was feeling. “And that’s another part of the problem Suzie, I’m messed up right now, and I don’t know how long it will last. I don’t want this to be a rebound relationship. I really like you. . .”

“So, what do we do?”

He finished the ironing, checked his work, and turned the iron off.

“I want this to work Suzie, I’m not going to give up or run away. If it goes bad it will hurt like hell but I think it’s worth the risk.”

“I do too.” Suzie moved to him, wrapping her arms around him, pressing her cheek into his bare chest as he wrapped her up in his arms.

“Scott?”

“Yes?”

“I need you to tell me things, I don’t handle secrets well, when you withdraw and get quiet, I feel like I’ve done something wrong.”

“I’ll try, but do you really want to hear about my marriage and feelings about it?”

“Yes.”

“There’s a lot of messed up stuff, and yet a good chunk of me still loves her. There will be a lot that is tough to hear, and there’s a lot I can’t talk about yet.”

“I’d rather hear it than not know.”

“Okay. I’ll do my best.”

“Scott, you ready to go?” Mrs. Carter’s voice called from the stairwell.

“Just need to get dressed and I’ll be up.”

He kissed Suzie and put on his uniform. Suzie watched him dress then came up behind him and slapped his ass hard.

“You be careful out there Scott.”

“I think I can handle Franklin, Suzie.”
