What happens when they wake up? What kind of surprises await them on the fourth day of their trip?
Gavin wakes up the next morning
His eyelids struggled to open, like his eyes haven’t been in use for some time now, his body ached all over and he felt hungry like he never had been before. At last, Gavin could open his dark brown eyes and what he found wasn’t one of the rooms at the Ravers’ Cabin. Then it all came back to him, the incident with Kurt losing his phone, him wandering through the woods for hours unable to find the device, the growing hunger inside him and the moment when he fell on the ground and felt an unbearable pain on his right ankle, fainting soon after.
He tried to move to a sitting position, but his sore body, along with his sprained ankle prevented him from doing that. Instead, he resigned himself to look around him. It was certainly a smaller room from those at the Ravers’ cabin, it had just a bed, a dresser and a wooden table. Light was streaming through the window, he could see that it was morning outside.
”Where am I?” He asked himself. ”I probably got picked up by someone, that much is obvious.”
“He..hel…help!” He stammered, finding out that his voice almost didn’t come out. He coughed twice.
Fortunately, it seemed that someone was near the door, it opened and Gavin’s eyes bugged out in surprise.
“Li…Lisa?” He asked, not believing his eyes.
The young woman smiled in response, walking over to the bed carrying a tray with a few sandwiches. “Hi, Gavin,” She greeted him, cheerfully. “How are you feeling?”
His hunger getting the best of him, he decided to temporarily ignore the fact that Lisa was there and attacked the food that was being offered to him. “Sorry,” He said with a mouthful. “It’s just that I’m really hungry.”
“It’s okay, eat all you want,” Lisa said. “When my father and I found you yesterday, you weren’t in a good shape.”
While he chewed on the food, Gavin looked at her. Lisa Rivera was 18 years old, her slightly wavy hair was long and black, her eyes were of a chocolate dark brown color and she had white, slightly tanned skin. Her parents were Mexican and Lisa had inherited their physical traits. She was the one that Gavin most got along amongst the girls that Zack got involved, although they didn’t really talked much ever since she broke up with Zack.
Lisa waved a hand in front of his face. “Gavin?” She tried to make him focus on her. “I asked how you ended up passing out on the forest.”
“Oh, sorry again,” Gavin snapped out of his musings. “I got separated from the others during a hike after one of them lost my phone, so I went searching for it and eventually passed out, I guess.”
Lisa frowned. “So, Zack and the others are here too?” She asked.
“Yeah, we’ve came here to spend Spring Break at Heather Ravers’ cabin.” Gavin replied, suddenly wondering if the girl still had feelings for his best friend. “What about you?”
“I’ve came with my parents,” Lisa answered simply. “Dad has an assignment on this area and decided to bring me and my mother to spend a few days here. He rented the cabin and here we are.”
“There’s something going on around here?” He asked, remembering that Lisa’s father was a detective in the Azure Rocks Police Department.
Lisa shrugged. “Dad didn’t say, but he thinks it’ll be an easy case to solve,” She answered, looking at Gavin’s ankle which was tightly wrapped in a white towel. “So, it’s probably not too big.”
Gavin nodded, he would have asked more, but he wasn’t interested in mysteries and conspiracies like Zack was.
“Does your ankle still hurt?” Lisa asked with concern.
Gavin tried to move his right foot and winced, there was still some pain on his ankle. He looked at Lisa and shook his head. “Yeah, it’s still a little sore.”
“Then, it’s best if we don’t move you,” She advised. “Give me the cabin’s phone number so I can call them and let someone know that you’re safe.”
A sheepish look came over Gavin’s face. “Well, I didn’t memorize the number,” He said. “And neither my friend’s ones for that matter, I keep all of them registered on my contact list and never bothered to learn the numbers.”
Lisa sighed but smiled the second after. “Okay then, you’ll probably be a lot better by afternoon,” She told him. “I think we can take you to them, then.”
Gavin smiled and stared into her dark orbs. “I want to thank you, Lisa, for everything.” A serious expression grew on his face.
“You’re welcome, Gavin,” Her smile got wider. “You may have forgotten, but you’re still my friend, you know?”
”Indeed, how could I’ve had neglected Lisa just because Zack broke up with her?” Gavin wondered.
What's happening at the cave and back at the cabin?
