From the Brink

Doom wakes up in the queen's bedroom again. He can't remember how he got here, but then the memories of the fighting rush into his mind. He jumps out of bed. "It doesn't matter why it happened. You fucked up and got people killed and injured," he says.

"H, how many are dead?" Doom asks.

"We buried 32 of our own. About 120 of theirs. Normally that would be cause for celebration not mourning, but that's 32 people more than needed to die," he says and then sighs, "I know what you really want to know though. Olivia and Cara are both still alive. Olivia is in bad shape, even with healing. Cara is fine, but resting. Ursa is dead, but you already knew that. "Your eye?" Doom asks and he closes his uninjured eye before opening it again as he answers.

"A lucky shot from a crossbow took out my eye. I got healed, but healing isn't perfect. I can't see out of it and the area is still horribly scarred," he says. Doom looks away.

"Could she really be alive?" Doom thinks to himself, but then tenses and in a low growl he speaks, "I felt the mark disappear," he tells her and she looks shocked.

She said that mark would keep her alive!" she yells, panic visible on her face and tears appearing in her eyes as she presses her hands against Doom's chest, "y, you! You left us there alone! We're going back there right now. I'm going to slaughter anyone who had a part in hurting her and maybe, by some miracle, she'll still be alive," he states and she nods.

Doom pushes past her and then hesitates. He said just her and him, but he should probably at least bring one other. If they're going to be facing the Regent they'll definitely need someone else since Doom isn't sure he'd be able to do much against her directly. He turns and heads into the city, finding Kasi after a bit. "Kasi. I have a job for you!" he states and she eagerly steps forward.

"Whatever you desire, chief," she says and Doom smiles slightly, even after everything Kasi seems utterly loyal and simple.

"Come. We're going on a special mission. It's either a rescue or an extermination mission, we'll know in a bit," he explains and she follows without hesitation as the three head to the gates. The gates open and the three head out. As the gate closes behind them Doom wonders if they should have brought more, but in his current state the thought is fleeting and is soon overtaken by visions of what he's going to do to the Regent if Belleza is dead.

"Yes! The Regent has undone the curse placed upon her and she has returned to the light, you can join her," she says. Doom isn't sure what that second part means, but it sounds like Belleza is alive and the Regent simply found a way to remove the mark. The idea that the mark could be removed was a disturbing one, but at the moment Doom was just happy to learn Belleza was alive. He casts a smile at Lianna and approaches her. Assuming they're still here, Ginny and Malcolm will need to be transferred, I'm not losing anymore prisoners, not after Celli and The Regent," he announces. Vox nods and heads down to get Kasi. Doom goes down and sends out a tentacle to grab the man who's still cowering in the corner. The tentacles bind his arms and drag him along as with Vox, Kasi and Belleza in tow and Lianna still held in place Doom heads back to Saluma.
