Franchising Opportunities
Elizabeth was now almost to term with her second child by Antoine, a son they intended to name after him. The businesses were thriving. She could focus on their children, both from Antoine and Douglas, and being the best wife she could possibly be.
Victor Franks was a well-established financier throughout the Southeast. He wanted to meet with Antoine to discuss franchising opportunities. He was handsome, Black, urbane, and clearly wealthy. If Elizabeth hadn't been married, Victor would be right up her alley.
He entertained the couple in Charleston, using his fund's yacht to impress both Antoine and Elizabeth. And he promised substantial capital to Antoine to dramatically expand the footprint of his restaurants.
As they departed, Victor shook Elizabeth's hand, looking her in the eye.
"I hope that we can become partners," he said. Antoine looked dazed, the thought of a business empire at his grasp. But Elizabeth fretted that his reach exceeded his grasp.
