Former boyfriend is the Chief of Police

"...you see I am a little nervous because the Chief of Police who hired me I found out is my former boyfriend who I broke up four years ago," Gemma explains, shivering a little with a big frown.

"Let me guess, you guys didn't exactly break up amicably, right?"

She nods, shaking. You want to just badly wrap around your arms around this small girl in comfort, but you contain yourself even if you could do it anyways. You get the sense that her ex-boyfriend was more than happy to see her and more than obliged to hire her. Despite given the chance to reject the offer, she took the offer, possibly trying her best to ignore the discomfort.

"Are you living with anyone now?" you ask.

She shakes her head, still shaking. "N-no, why?"

Zing!

"Oh, just wondering," you dismiss casually, "Come with me. I'm heading to my apartment to pick up someone. After that, I'll help you with your ex-boyfriend troubles."

She raises her eyebrows and wipes her tears from her eyes. "Uhm...okay, but how are you going to help me? I don't want to cause you any trouble."

What a considerate girl. In a way, she feels almost like an angel.

"Are you sure this is a good idea, sweetie?" Melanie raises, clearly worrying more for your safety than for the police-girl.

"Don't worry, I am. Do you have any problems with it?" you ask, curious for her opinion.

Melanie frowns. "I'm just concerned for my son, here. I don't want you to get in any trouble with the Chief of Police."

You dismiss her concerns. You love the fact that Melanie is very motherly and worried for you, but if only she recognizes the powers you have. Although, if she did recognize it, that could be a problem.

Or maybe not?

You hum, realizing you may have another experiment to test later.

Digressing, you focus on Gemma who awaits your answer. Honestly, you have no idea what kind of guy Gemma's boyfriend is and you have no idea how you will manipulate the Chief of Police.

"Just trust me, okay?" you reply, not wanting to get into any specifics.

Gemma hums, worried but accepts the fact that you will help her in some form. She smiles a little, happy to see someone to support her, even if it is a citizen.

With a new follower, you get into your car without a ticket and tell Melanie to drive back home. She protests a little as she seems to want to know who you are picking up. You didn't want to reveal to your "mother" about Erica and the fact that she is your actual cousin. It may make things a little confusing right now.

She reluctantly agrees and drives home. Gemma gets into her own police car and follows you. It is a little weird to see a police car amicably following you without the red and blue lights flashing, but you tried not to focus too much on it as you arrive at your apartment.

A\N: I was originally going to define the ex-boyfriend as abusive but decide to keep the reason they broke up vague so that it allows for different paths when we meet the Chief of Police.
