Foreman Meeting

Ivan had waited in line patiently for at least half an hour as his coworkers were cycled in and out of the trailer continuously. Only a few of them decided not to stay and had left shortly after the announcement. Pretty much everyone else texted their families and friends before committing to finishing the job. When Jazz left the office he gave a small nod to Ivan as he waited his turn.

Once it was finally his turn he collected himself and opened the trailer door. The trailer was messy with random folders and building plans scattered around the floor of it. Empty coffee cups lined the Foreman's desk along with other emptied out food containers.

"Alright Ivan, you sticking it out or what?", the foreman asked bluntly.

"Yes sir, I need the money.", Ivan replied.

The foreman nodded, "All right. Just to cross my T's and dot my I's, you had to leave sick the other day and I need to know why."

Ivan replied as he had rehearsed it at least several times in his mind by this point. "It was a stomach bug. I puked my guts out on the side of the road on my way home. I tried a new Indian restaurant and I guess it just didn't sit right with me."

The Foreman didn't seem to question it as he pulled out a piece of paper and placed it on the edge of his desk. "If you want to work, sign this waiver and then you can return to your post. It basically frees the company of any liability should the 'pandemic' spread all the way out here." He said, clearly annoyed with the whole ordeal.

Ivan didn't hesitate and signed the document. He immediately handed it back to the foreman and gave him a nod. Right as he was about to leave, the foreman made one last comment, "By the way, nice shave. Your facial hair has been a fucking mess. Now you at least look somewhat presentable." He laughed at himself as Ivan's shoulders slumped.

Ivan took a deep breath as soon as he left to calm his nerves and set his mind to finishing out the days shift. He would need a plan if he wasn't going to end up in a cell somewhere.
