Chapter 1020 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Follow everyone to the last game.

All pieces of the earlier obstacle course have been removed, and now the track and field area has been cleared out. While it may appear like a race course, it's also effectively an outdoor gym, or a soccer field, or whatever exterior area for sport related activities--effectively like where you just were, but more formal, and no obstacles at all. The audience is easily able to circumnavigate the field and watch from all sides. Meanwhile, you and the two Demon Kings search for a more peaceful place to observe.

"Excuse me," comes a voice from behind. It's Juaela. "Would you like to watch from the nearby tower? I will be announcing from there, but I imagine you may start to feel uncomfortable amongst the commonfolk, especially as they notice more and more who you all are. You do not keep secrets after all. The King and his men observe, the festival guests follow their eyes. The whispering is surely uncomfortable."

"You work for Daven, right?" asks William bluntly.

"I am working as his master of ceremonies while he is absent, yes."

"So we can't trust this broad either," Vex says with a jerk of her thumb. "But I would rather watch from up there."

"You do not need to trust me for that, I suppose," says the bard.

"Then let's go," you say.

Able to see from up here is a blessing. Down in the field, you can make out the final contestants. You must stand out of the way temporarily, however, as Juaela must do her duty. She lifts up the magical rod which functions like a microphone--sound always booming, even without any speakers present. Everyone hangs on her words as she speaks in a beautiful, clear, energetic voice. "Welcome, everybody, to the final competition between Team A, B, C, and D!"

It's like a roaring storm beneath you as everybody applauds.

"I know that this Sports Festival has been something strange and unique, but that was our intention after all!" she says with a giggle. "It is no secret who are team leaders are. You all know already. So your civility is much appreciated. But of course you would feel safe with the illustrious Hero-King amongst us! Am I right?"

One again, the people cheer.

She continues. "For this game, our competitors will be having a cavalry battle! Have you not heard of this before? I will gladly explain! You see, it consists of four teams of two once again, though one must ride on the shoulders of the other. The rider will wear a headband of their team's colour. Whoever ends up with all four colours tied around their head shall be crowned victor! Yes, it is just that simple. Just remember that, as they were told beforehand, one is only allowed to be off the shoulders of the other for up to three seconds or they must drop all of their collected bands and forfeit the competition. Anyway, let us put our hands together for Team A's duo, Meti and Breiah!"

Standing out in the field in their team's corner is the woman who immediately becomes your focus of attention. Her snow-white hair is tied up into a ponytail, and while she doesn't wear a lab coat presently, you can't help but flash back to when you were first taken--when the woman appeared to pull you through a portal, and tie you up for experimentation. In fact, after you stare for a moment, her own gaze lifts right up to meet your own. There's no emotion on her face, but she knows. You feel a chill down your spine. Despite her appearing like Vivi in subtle ways, she couldn't be more different.

To everyone else, she's a pretty but otherwise regular human with pale skin. The people nearby's eyes are completely on Meti the jinn. As the rarest race here, even more than an anubian or a kitsune, as well as being strikingly beautiful, those watching from the sidelines have to resist reaching in and getting themselves thrown from the festival for touching, especially as she's not at all cloaked or hooded or anything of the like. She stands proudly in her gym uniform--a gorgeous, exotic genie girl.

Juaela smiles bright. "Next up is Team B. Don't get confused. He isn't a goblin! The cute half-orc Farin is up next, along with his bubbly companion Kiki!"

"What did she say about me?" asks Farin with colour in his cheeks.

"Team C is next!" she continues. "Do not be afraid, everyone, but keep your distance. The famous assassin Stilet is here, alongside the fighting rabbit Ribi! And last but not least, the group who has swept every single game so far today, Team D! Now I hope you do not all just target them in this final round. That would be unfortunate!" After an eerie giggle, she finishes her thought. "They will be represented by the two girls, Snow and Rabbit's Foot! Quite a surprise, to see the famous superhero taking sides with Kyle Warren, but here we are, and she is ready to fight!"

First thing's first, Meti mounts Breiah. While the mysterious witch may not be tall or strong, she seems to be able to mostly hold up the weight of her companion over her shoulders. The jinn wraps the golden band around her forehead, which fits surprisingly well with her aesthetic, and the pair is already prepared. Elok Daven's chosen knight and horse, whether on purpose or by chance, are ready for war.

Next is Farin who easily holds the weight of Kiki. He may be a young man, but he's certainly strong, whether that be from his half-orcish blood or his own doing, or both. She giggles as she flaps her big, soft gloves up and down, much to the dismay of the one trying to keep her steady. She may be wearing the same uniform as others, but this pale-pink-haired catfolk with straight, pointed ears was apparently still allowed to wear her oversized gloves. It takes awhile for her to tie up the red band around her forehead. It isn't because of the gloves, as she's actually just as capable with or without them, but simply because she won't pay attention.

Third is Ribi, who reminds you a little of Niki, perhaps by the tint to her skin, or her athletic body, or even the fact that she has tattoos even if they're not as likely to be magical, and she stands ready with a fist thrust into her opened hand. In a sense, she reminds you of Lalarin as well, though this girl has big floppy ears, and her shoulder-length hair is braided back with ruby beads as said before. The funny thing is her gym uniform is noticeably less revealing than what she was wearing when you first saw her. Either way, she already has the green band around her forehead.

Lastly, Rabbit's Foot stands proudly even without her uniform, though she was allowed to keep the emerald mask around her eyes. Who could she be?! Her and Snow look at one another--cat and rabbit. There's a sudden discomfort in your heart, thinking back to the conflicts their people have faced in the past, even if it's been for such a stupid reason all these years. You remember Feli and Lepo, and wonder how they're doing now.

The two then lock hands and shake firm. They smile bright and gaze into each other's eyes with determination. Then in the same motion, they use the might of the handshake to vault Snow onto Lalarin's shoulders. The ninja cat holds up the long, thin, blue strap of fabric with pride, pulls it tight just above her eyes, and ties it firmly in place.

Your eyes flicker to the other competitors again. She's right. People are gonna be focusing their attention on Snow and Lala now. I hope they'll be okay.
