Chapter 158 by amon_Baal amon_Baal

Parting ways?

Follow Steve

Jan left shortly afterwards. Steve knew she was going to wake Gen along with Kay, and it excited him to no end. So, soon after she left, Steve got dressed and left for work. It was early, but he felt it would be better for him if he could keep his distracted mind busy.

He was the first in the office that day and got to work finishing up the paperwork and filings for a few cases. After about half an hour on his own, the early starters trickled in. It wasn’t long before he got a knock at his office door. “Madeline, please come in,” Steve said.

“Thank you, Steve,” she paused a moment and glanced around, “I wanted to thank you for taking on these extra duties relating to all the Mythfolk work, being a mentor for Keron and Amat, and working with Lin and Bec on recognition of other cultural relationships for Mythfolk. But, I also wanted to point out that the senior partners are looking very closely at this.”

Steve paused, “Wait, you don’t mean?” he hesitated. The firm was known for having a senior partner who is the face of each of their core work areas.

Madeline shrugged, “We will need someone at some point. And I can’t think of a better person.”

Steve stood up and walked around his desk, hugging Madeline, “God, Madeline, this is huge. How, I mean, you are saying you want to nominate me for senior partner?”

She laughed, “Yes. It would need to be voted on by the other senior partners, but I think you would be a good fit.”

“Thank you, Madeline, thank you,” Steve said. “Wow.” He paused a moment and then smiled.

“Don’t say it,” Madeline said, pointing a finger at him. His smile broadened, “Don’t.”

“Say, Madeline, aren’t you the youngest person to ever get senior partner in this firm?” he asked her.

“Goodbye, Steven,” she said as she left his office.

He chuckled to himself. He was a little over a year younger than Madeline was to make senior partner; it still wasn’t a certainty, but he could be the youngest senior partner ever.

It was only a few minutes after Madeline had left that Amat knocked on his door. “Good morning,” she said. She was wearing a skirt and vest but no shirt, and it looked incredibly erotic to Steve. “Bec wanted me to let you know that Lin is hoping to have a weekly update on what is going on and how she can help. Keron is organising a short template so we can update things as we go and use that to brief her.”

“It’s a good idea,” Steve said. He only then noticed her antlers, quickly regrowing and just protruding from her hair. “Amat,” he said as she turned to leave, “would you like to share a meal later this week?”

Amat stopped for a moment and turned to look at him. There was a long pause between them, and Steve struggled to read her expressions. She was still side-on, and he could see her little tail poking out from a slit in her tight skirt. “I think that sounds delightful,” she finally said. “I assume you mean in the Deerfolk way?”

Steve nodded, “Yes.”

Amat smiled, “Thursday? I will send you my address.” As she left, Steve saw her tail shaking and wondered if that was a good sign or if he was reading too much into it.
