They are from an ancient kingdom and are performing a ritual. The people explain that the woman meant to carry out the ritual fled, and that you arrived at the perfect moment to calm the evil spirit and prevent a sacrifice.

You can volunteer to calm the evil spirit, or you can leave them to their fate and continue your journey for the magic stone.
