Fish for Pokémon and a Surprise

-The Next Day-

"Why aren't they here?!" Rosa shouted at the top of her lungs. I honestly don't blame her. We've been fishing since around 8 am, and now it's about 11 am, and we haven't had a single Water Pokémon bite. Correction: I should say useful Water Pokémon because we have caught plenty of Magikarp, but they aren't useful until they evolve into Gyarados.

I sighed, "Yeah, looks like the other Waters aren't biting right now. Why don't we take a break and have some lunch?" I suggested. Rosa sighed in defeat and agreed. We made some sandwiches and started eating. As we ate, I thought of what we could do to have a better chance at getting a Water Pokémon, but to be fair, I was starting to think that there might not be any of them in this lake, given how often trainers moved through the area and caught them for us against Brock and his Rock Pokémon. Deep in thought, I felt a tug on my shirt. I looked down to see Lucy pulling on my shirt.

"Something wrong, Lucy?" I asked.

_"Master, I'm sensing something in that direction," _Lucy said. I looked at the way she was pointing. She was pointing up one of the rivers feeding into the Lake.

"Do you know where or what it is?" I asked.

"I'm not sure, but it feels like two Pokémon. I think they might be fighting," Lucy said.

"I guess it's worth looking about. Want to come and take a look, Rose?" I asked her.

"Sure. Beats waiting around here, waiting for the Pokémon to bite on the lines that we have." Rose said, putting her fishing pole away.

We started to follow the river that feeds into the lake. I wasn't sure of what we were going to find or how long we needed to walk, but after what I assume was ten minutes, we started to hear the telltale sounds of a Pokémon battle. As we came to the clearing, we saw the two Pokémon fighting each other. A Buizel, standing confidently on a rock, and to my surprise, a Squirtle, lying next to a tree. The Buizel appeared to be completely unharmed, but the Squirtle was in bad shape, and when I say bad shape, I mean that it has taken quite a lot of damage even before the battle between the two. Squirtle was **** as Buizel was preparing another attack against Squirtle, but Lucy launched an Aura Sphere past Buizel, disrupting the attack.

"Rosa, take care of Buizel. I'll tend to Squirtle." I said, rushing over to check on Squirtle. Rosa called out her Snivy and began fighting Buizel. I pulled out some potions and started working on Squirtle's injuries. I was so focused on tending to Squirtle's injuries that I couldn't see Rosa's battle, but I could hear it. The battle didn't last long when I noticed Rosa next to me.

"Looks like Squirtle is doing better now, Lucas," Rosa said.

"Yeah, Squirtle is starting to stabilize, but I am not sure as to how and why Squirtle was in this situation," I replied.

"At least I was able to capture Buizel," Rosa said.

"That should help you in facing off against Brock in Pewter City, but my focus is on Squirtle right now," I said, pulling out a Pokéball and tapping it against Squirtle, but to my shock, nothing happened, "What?"

"Why didn't the Pokéball capture Squirtle?" Rosa asked.

"It should, unless Squirtle is a trainer's Pokémon," I said.

"But why is Squirtle here, and where is its trainer?" Rosa asked.

"I don't know, but this does happen from time to time. Now that I've stabilized Squirtle, we can take Squirtle to the Pewter City Pokémon Center. There, the Nurse can properly heal Squirtle fully, then message the trainer to pick Squirtle up. With any luck, they will do just that," I explained.

"And if the trainer's a no-show?" Rosa asked.

I sighed, "We will answer that when we get there, but for now, let's get back to the camp, pack up, and get to Pewter City. With any luck, we can get there by the evening." I said, as I carefully picked up Squirtle. Rosa nodded as we headed back to camp.
