What's next?
First day at college
What's my name?
Harry Markovic
Occupation?
Wilderness explorer.
At least I imagined myself to be one, consoling my poor soul as I was attacked by mosquitoes and all manner of biting insects. That wasn't surprising at all, as I was squatting in some bushes right now, but I could still complain about it.
“Biting?”
“They sting dumbass!”
A wave of amusement rang against my mind, his laugh felt like it was bouncing around the walls of my skull. A flare of annoyance rose up from my belly.
“Where were you all this time? I could've used your help, you know?” I asked him in a low voice, I was still trying to be sneaky here.
And I got nothing back. I sighed and continued stalking around the bushes trying to figure out where exactly was the entrance those two had told me about.
I wondered why I even said I needed Ortho’s help, any assistance from him was bound to turn an ugly way. The asshole even said it himself, he was driven to drag me along for his evil schemes.
I sighed once more, thinking about watching those shows on TV about the main character having an inner demon. They would give the main character awesome powers and some would even offer wise advice. Ortho on the other hand just molests people and causes trouble. Maybe he was like those ones in the shows and he just needed to be befriended?
Feeling a sharp pain on my foot, I grunted and looked down. A thorn had pierced my foot right through my soft shoe. I sat down and gently pulled it out, feeling the slight throbbing pain. I could feel a little wetness around my socks from some blood but I seemed to be fine.
“Ugh fuck, look to your left!” Ortho said.
“There is a little hole there, get out of here before you somehow manage to die in these bushes”
I couldn't help smiling, maybe it truly was a matter of just getting to know each other.
“Hehe yeah, I'm not that bad just let me have control and I'll negotiate with this guy we are going to find,” He explained.
“Oh really what's your negotiation style”
“It's simple really, I have many years of experience doing diplomacy.”
“After all, people tend to not disagree with you when you have your cock up their ass!”
“That's enough from you,” I plugged up my ears even though it didn't prevent me from hearing his laughter reverberating in my head.
I easily found the hole I was supposed to enter through after Ortho had pointed it out. I saw its size and I was satisfied. I knelt down on the grass and held the edge of the chain link open as I spread it open and crawled through. There were some slightly sharp points lightly digging on me but my hoodie was thick enough to prevent scratches and I made it to the other side.
Dusting myself off, I cracked my back and took a look around. It was a wide field that stretched for a few yards. The grass was well taken care of but I couldn't tell what sport could this be used for.
I didn't have time to guess though so I just started walking. The short grass crunched lightly under my feet and released a delicious earthy and fresh smell. What the fuck? Did I wanna eat it?
I glanced down at the little but many pointy plants and swallowed a gulp of saliva. Oh for God's sake, this is really my powerset?
Eating people and grass, what type of diet did Ortho have anyway? Would I start having the urge to fuck cows or shit in grass?
I sighed and kept walking, ignoring my new urges as I continued trudging through the lawn. Past the field I actually got to see the college for the first time, I had only seen it in pictures on the internet. I used to stare at pictures of it for hours, longingly imagining myself attending here having friends and all the normal college experiences. I was now old as fuck at 19 years, and most of the people I knew had already been attending it for TWO whole years. I felt so much regret over my choices and I couldn't help sighing again.
Well, I was here now and I would enjoy the moment I guess. It was strangely perfect too, at night with no people so I could view it unobstructed. Other than the guards of course, Styles and Victoria had already told me they usually just laze around at their spots at night, so it's rare to see them. Leaving me to enjoy the view in peace.
My first impression of it was suspicion, this was a college in the middle of nowhere. Why was it so nice? I walked around amazed. There was a towering building made of steel and glass, that one was probably for the business types. Another had a nice wooden and plant-like vibe maybe for agriculture?, and don't ask me to describe a plant-like vibe, I don't know, it just is.
I wasn't really an architectural nerd but even my uncultured ass could see this school was nice. I allowed myself to just take in the view of these buildings that were being illuminated gently by the moonlight. I was a ghost roaming across an empty campus searching for the person who saw my true nature, only me and the goddess Luna could witness my guilt.
This was the regretful solitude of a Man called Harry.
Walking alone to clean my sin-
“Ugh, would you shut the fuck up!, even your poetry sucks!”
“I see you're a brute who has no taste for the finer arts”
“I can appreciate them just fine. If they're good at least”
“What is that supposed to mean?” I gave an indignant scoff in my mental space.
I once again received silence.
“Do you always talk this much when you're scared?”
“Cause I feel it radiating off you”
“And it stinks!”
“Completely unbecoming of you”
“Especially since you missed to see something right in front of you”
I quickly turned my head, rapidly twisting around to see what he could be talking about. What did Ortho notice?
My sports shoes scraped softly against the hard concrete pavement. I had walked right into a parking area it seems. There were a few cars scattered around, some plainly abandoned looking at the dust that had settled on them. Except one.
It was left at the far end of the lot, its lights were on and it was fogged up from the inside. It was bouncing and swaying from side to side and when I focused, I could hear moans of pain from the inside. My heart instantly started beating harder, was I already having another “weird” encounter?
I hesitated a bit before deciding to check it out, what choice did I have? I would regret it for life if I didn't investigate to my full capability. Walking towards the anomaly with a slow crouch, every crunch of pebble or swallow of my saliva felt too loud. As I got closer the moans were more clear, it was a woman and a man's distinct tone. She seemed to be pleading while he was roughly trying to silence her.
I looked around for a weapon before setting on a yellow cone, I doubted its effectiveness in combat but a parking lot was sorely lacking in lethal weaponry. I was now right next to the car and the voices were even louder from here. I tuned them out and focused on getting ready to attack.
I then tensed my legs and jumped out, lifting the bright orange cone and slamming it on the window!
It wasn't as effective as I thought and it simply bounced off.
The people inside screamed loudly, and I felt the cold metal of the car door slamming on my chest.
The air got knocked out of me and I fell backwards, I was seeing stars in the edge of vision. I was gasping like a fish out of water, trying to pay attention to my surroundings. Ortho was admonishing me in the background not helping at all
“You dumbass! In what universe does that work?”
“I thought with your better understanding of this world you would be smarter but fuck-”
“Someone approaches…”
I heard someone step outside and walk a bit towards me, footsteps pounding on the pavement.
“Don't move you son of a bitch!”
I looked up and I was facing the end of a gun barrel.
