First Changes

Hannah watched the proceedings carefully, and with a small amount of admiration. Their captors were playing them masterfully, she realized. They'd made an example of Amelia. That much was obvious. But she'd dangled a carrot out in front of them, too. Win and you can wish everyone else back to normal...or for anything else you'd like.

While she was certain she wanted nothing to do with this, she was equally convinced that what she wanted no longer mattered. And if that was the case, she wanted to make very sure she understood it.

"So how does this work?" She asked. "Explain this whole...'path' thing."

Leah clapped her hands and nodded.

"Each of you will, to start the game, be placed on a 'path', and given some initial transformations to get you going," She said. "Think of them as a sort of 'theme' for the changes you can undergo. They'll build on one another, light or even beneficial ones for placing highly in each round, devastating ones if you finish poorly. But all within a theme."

"I see," Hannah said. "So it's a range of outcomes, basically. But all tied together under a package."

"Exactly!" Leah exclaimed with a snap. "Though, every journey starts with a single step, no? We won't come out and say what those packages are outright. You'll just have to guess as the changes pile up."

"How will we know what changes we get to start?" Emily asked.

"It's right here," Megan said. She was bending over the screen. "There's a few for each of us and some descriptions."

Hanna, followed by the others, began to crowd around to see the potential changes that lay in store for them.

"To those in the audience," Leah said behind them, "You'll see a word or two in parentheses. This will give you a hint as to what sort of paths we're putting these people on!"

Emily
Open Mind - Emily will find herself being admired by the other players, and admiring them right back in return. (Free Use)
Idealized - Her body will take on the version of itself from Jake's fantasies. (Trophy)

Side Hustle - Once per round (at least to start), Lindsey will be able to earn extra money by accepting transformations from the audience. (App controlled)

Farra scoffed at her options.

"You know, Ben Franklin had a thing or two to say about the youth and experience debate."

"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Jones-Ali," Jake apologized profusely. "I think they want to make you more competitive, but..."

"Try me, boy." She responded with a wry smile.

Hannah looked to the two strangers. The green haired one looked puzzled.

"Dream girl...is that a play on manic pixie dream girl?" She asked. "Oh God...am I a manic pixie dream girl?"

"You're what? 20?" AJ asked, arms crossed. "You'll outgrow it."

"You doing okay with this?" Hannah asked her quietly.

AJ shook her head.

"I don't love the option I'm probably gonna get, but I'll live. She's the one I'm worried about."

She pointed a finger, indicating Megan, who was fidgeting with her skirt as she watched. Jake seemed to notice her too, and looked down at her.

"Meg...I swear to god I won't...you're still my sister."

She gave him a weak smile.

"I trust you, Jake. You're not the one I'm worried about."

Without thinking, Hannah moved to her side and gave her a little squeeze.

"You come to us if you need anything, okay? Me and AJ."

She nodded a weak agreement.

Exe sized up her competition, doing her best to keep her growing sense of sureity from showing on her face. This crowd was a bunch of scared, regular people. She was the professional crowd pleaser. Even the changes offered to her played to her strengths. Audience appeal? Fanservice? Shit, that was her job already.

She was maybe a bit concerned about the old woman, at least if she ended up being half the looker at a young age that Exe suspected she might be. Another potential problem, the redhead, was watching the screen with a cool, blank expression that Exe rather admired. Oh yeah, she thought, _this one knows how to handle herself. _The other mother of the group, Julie, seemed downright excited about her impending changes. Briefly, she wondered about the woman's story, and how she got here.

She couldn't help but smirk at the boy's fate. That little shit had practically insulted her when she'd arrived. That she was sure he'd be part of the fairer sex soon enough would be more than comeuppance for his judgemental attitude.

For now, all she had to do was lean back, wait, and see what the audience had to pick for her.
