Finlay "Finn" Powers - A Second Son Becomes Alpha

I couldn't believe our luck. Just when things were about to worsen, the world decided to do the right thing for a change and save my family and me. For those of you here in Commodus Fields that haven't heard the news, then let me explain. I'm Finlay Powers, but everyone calls me Finn. I'm the second oldest in my family, and despite the usual way things go in this OZ, I just became the Alpha of my family. This is because my older brother, James, is a total monster.

We've always known that James had some mental issues, but we hadn't known it was full-blown psychopathy until he’d already manipulated everyone to move to Commodus Fields. During the road trip to our new home, we found out about James’ crimes, where he hunted girls and violated them in terrible ways. Yes, this was before the free use was so universal. In fact, the passing of the Free Use laws prompted James to get us to move to an OZ. Not only did the laws change what was and wasn’t consensual, since it was relatively well-received by the world at this point, but the laws also gave his victims the courage to speak out, and the law was still willing to prosecute him for past crimes.

However, James saw this coming, and had made plans for it. He’s been looking into OZs for a long time on the internet, getting the layout of the life in an Oedipal Zone, and chatting with the Alphas who live there. He liked what he saw. It wasn't just a place to escape his growing problems, but a new hunting ground for his sick form of entertainment. Only now his prey would include his family as well.

But it turns out, life as an Alpha isn’t the kind of freedom my brother had thought, and the people he’d been talking to had been researching him too.

While James was forcing us to move, threatening and blackmailing us, his Alpha friend had been discussing with others what to do. I guess they’re a bit personal about justice in the OZ. They’d lured him in, but sprung a trap after we’d arrived. I will never forget the look on James' face as the cops burst out of our new house and dragged him away, kicking and screaming like a rabid animal.

We couldn’t go home. There were dangerous complications if we went back. But James’ friend, our Alpha savior made us an offer. We could stay in Commodus Fields and the authorities would protect us, but we’d have to live by their rules.

I’d never heard of Commodus Fields or an Oedipal Zone a few weeks ago, but here I am, a second son getting ready to live as an Alpha.
