Finding Common Ground

While Zack was meeting with Alice, Heather had her own meeting with Victoria for their project. After things had gone so well between the two at their last meeting, Heather wasn’t as upset about the meeting this time around. Things should be even better this time or at least she hoped.

Heather was meeting Victoria at her house this time around. Maybe this would give her some input as to why Victoria thought she and her friends were so bad. As she pulled up to the house, Heather got out of her car and made her way to the door. She knocked and waited for the door to be answered.

When the door was answered, a woman who looked to be around her mom and dad’s age opened the door. “Hello, I am Heather. I am here to work on a biology project with Victoria.” Heather said and she could tell that this woman didn’t really like her.

Victoria’s mother put a fake smile on her face and let her in the house. “Right this way. Victoria is waiting in the kitchen for you.”

“Thanks.” Heather said as they both walked into the kitchen to see Victoria getting everything ready.

“Thanks for coming here. I figured it would be easier to just meet here.” Victoria said.

“No problem. So, how about we get to work?” Heather said and Victoria nodded.

Victoria was surprised at Heather’s eagerness to get to work. She knew that there was more to the Ravers girl than she thought from the way that their last meeting had gone, but she didn’t think she would be this eager to work.

“So, your mom is going to let us see a birth in person?” Victoria asked.

“Yep. She even got someone to sign off on letting us watch. The mother-to-be was happy to let us watch being that it is for educational purposes.” Heather said.

“Cool. I didn’t expect this to happen. So, when do we need to be at the hospital?” Victoria asked.

“Right now, she is due in a couple of weeks, but we kind of need to be ready at any time. When women are this close to their due date, the baby could come at any time.” Heather said and Victoria nodded.

“So, this is what you want to do when you get a job? You want to follow in your mom’s footsteps?” Victoria asked.

“Yep. My mom is my role model. I want to be just like her.” Heather said.

It surprised Victoria again to see how focused Heather was on her future. She had always thought that Heather and Zack would just try to use their money to get by, but she seemed to be completely wrong about the twins and possibly most of their friends as well. “I could definitely be friends with someone who is focused on their future.” Victoria thought to herself, looking at Heather in a new light.

“Okay. So, is there anything else that we need to do before we go in to watch the birth?” Victoria asked, since Heather knew more about this kind of stuff than she did.

“Yeah, we can do some research that has to do with what happens to a woman’s body while she is pregnant. We won’t get that from watching the birth. Also, what is happening to the baby as they grow inside of their mother. Things like that we can find at the library or online.” Heather said.

“Those are some good ideas. Anything else you can think of?” Victoria asked.

“I think that is a good start. If anything else comes up we can just let each other know. I think we should do our own research and then when we meet again we can put what we found together. You might find something that I didn’t and I might find something that you didn’t.” Heather said.

“That works for me. So, is that all we need to do today?” Victoria asked.

“I think so. You know, I was dreading working with you at first. I knew that you had a bad view of me for some reason and I thought that you were going to bring that into this, which would have been really bad.” Heather said.

“I was dreading it too. From what I always heard, you and your brother were spoiled rich kids who had everyone else do everything for them. I can now see that this is not the case.” Victoria said.

“I can see where you would get that impression. My mom wasn’t exactly rich growing up, so she made sure that we knew how to work for what we want. It has helped Taylor, Zack and I stay grounded. She gave us a strong work ethic.” Heather said.

“I can see that now. So, how about we sit here and learn some more stuff about each other? It might help us even more with our project.” Victoria said.

“I have nothing else to do. I guess I can hang out for a while.” Heather said.

“Okay. So, I know what you want to do for a job, but what about your brother and sister?” Victoria asked.

“Zack is into photography, but he is planning on working for the resort. Taylor is the same way. She is going to take over dad once all is said and done. What about you?” Heather asked.

“I plan on following my mom into the Newspaper business. I already run the school newspaper.” Victoria said.

“Yeah, I have read some of your stories. They are pretty good.” Heather said.

“Thanks.” Victoria said in surprise. There really seemed to be more to Heather Ravers than she thought.

“Oh you thought I was too snobby to read the newspaper?” Heather said with a smile.

“Oh, no. Of course not.” Victoria rambled, as she had been caught.

“Don’t worry about it. You wouldn’t be the first person to think that.” Heather said.

“Well, I am starting to see that you aren’t what I thought.” Victoria said.

“Don’t worry about it. So, how did you get this opinion of me and my friends?” Heather asked.

“It mostly started with Chloe. Sharon made fun of her when we were younger and it just gave my whole group a bad opinion of all of you” Victoria said.

Heather nodded, knowing that was completely possible and then said, “Yeah. I think I remember that now. Sharon is a lot different now. She still has that person inside of her, but she has become a better person now that she is so close to my brother.”

“I shouldn’t have judged you on that though. Just because you are friends with Sharon doesn’t mean that you are like her.” Victoria said.

“You aren’t the only one who has done that. You would be surprised how many people think that I just get everything handed to me. I have to admit, I do get privileges that others don’t, but I try not to take advantage of that too much.” Heather said.

“I get that. I guess it comes along with who you are. Some things are just going to be given to you.” Victoria said.

“Yeah. So, are we actually getting along here? I never thought that would happen.” Heather said, chuckling to herself.

“Yeah, I think we are. I am just as surprised as you are.” Victoria said, smiling back at Heather.

“So, I see you are really close with Oliver Bishop. Anything going on between the two of you?” Heather asked.

“Nope. We are just friends. Why do you ask? Are you interested in him?” Victoria said with a hint of jealousy in her voice.

“No. Although I do have to admit he is hot. I am more into college guys and this other guy who is our age right now. You have nothing to worry about from me.” Heather said.

“Why don’t you go out with the guy that is our age then?” Victoria asked.

“I am not really up for a relationship now. We are just having fun.” Heather said.

“Oh, so you two have sex then? What is that like?” Victoria asked.

“Sex or the friends with benefits thing?” Heather asked.

“Well. Both I guess.” Victoria said.

“Wow. Someone as hot as you is a virgin. I never would have thought that. Anyway, sex is great. It is one of the best feelings in the world if the guy knows what he is doing. As for the friends with benefits thing, it is good. It is nice to have someone who can scratch that itch when you aren’t up for a relationship.” Heather said.

“I never really looked at it like that. I always just thought that a person that was friends with benefits was a slut.” Victoria said.

“I guess it all depends. If you do it with a bunch of guys in that situation I guess you would be considered a slut.” Heather said.

“That makes sense. Wow. You are actually teaching me something today.” Victoria said.

“Glad I could help.” Heather said and both of the girls laughed.

They continued to talk for a bit longer, realizing that they probably had more in common than they ever would have thought. Victoria was seeing Heather and her friends in a whole new light after hanging out with her today. Who knows? Maybe they could be friends one day. She just didn’t know how the rest of her group would take these revelations.

After a little while, Heather had some other things to do, so she had to break up the good time she was actually having with the girl who she thought was her enemy. She had won Victoria over, but that didn’t mean that the rest of her friends or Victoria’s friends would see things the same way. She was pretty sure that Alice would be in the same boat as Victoria, so with the two of them working together, maybe the could work together and fuck over her cousin and all of his friends. That would be something wouldn’t it?
