Chapter 1238

What do you do?
Find your destination.
"Right here," says Mela. The banshee is currently within her doll-like body, allowing her to help far more easily than it would be otherwise. As a ghost, she can interact with the world around her, but not easily. Now that she has a body of her own, she seems very happy to find reasons to touch things. She thrusts her finger down upon a map of the region laid out on the War Room table.
With you is Amara, Niki, Eva, Summer, Taiga, Luna, and Delphi.
She continues. "It is not labelled on any official map, but south of Silverleaf, on the west side of the Pecho Stream, are small hills out in a grassy plain filled with animals but monsters as well. They say that you must seek out a landmark called the Stone of Happiness, and beyond it will be two trees directly adjacent to one another. From there, you should see a cave leading down into the Demon King's lair. Thankfully, it has been many years since Muian's fall."
"After that, we had to find our own places in the world," Summer says. Her tone is more solemn than you're used to hearing.
You look to the insectrin in the room. "I'm sorry if this is inappropriate to ask, but does that mean all three of you fought in his army?"
"Not all," answers Luna. "Though we were all under his employ. His methods have been lost, but he was able to spawn countless insectrin to do many things. I was tasked to make clothing for the others, for example, not fight. Yet I served the Demon King all the same."
"Summer and I were soldiers," says Taiga. "And yes. It was hard even afterwards. Nobody would accept us, and many still don't. I can't blame them. We were spawned by an evil man to do evil things. We're not a natural race, like elves or dwarves. Many of us could do little but continue fighting, either as mercenaries, or servants under yet another Demon King."
"Ah, b-but this is different!" Summer says. "Under you, Kyle, it doesn't feel at all the same as Muian or Sa'dis. Here, it's like we're just all friends hanging out. I actually love my job now! I don't have to fight. I can just cook yummy meals for everyone, and cover myself in honey!"
You glance over. "Cover yourself in--"
"Things are better now. And it's thanks to you," Luna says. "I still remember when we first met. When you needed an outfit for a noble's ball. You hadn't ever seen an insectrin before, yet your stare was one of wonder, not disgust."
Amara hangs her head. "I admit. For some time, I was weary of insectrin. I feared the Demon King's influence still lingered. Yet in time, I realized they were just as the rest of us. My mother spoke to me of one she met which saved her life. I just... wanted you all to know that were was a brief time where I did not fully trust--"
"Don't even go on about that," Summer interrupts. She wraps her arms around the elf with a tight squeeze. "I don't expect anyone to trust me right away. That wouldn't change if I were an elf instead."
"I never cared," says Niki.
Eva smacks her arm. "Don't sound like you're riding a high horse! Amara was opening her heart to us!"
"O-Oh. I didn't mean it like that. I thought we were just sharing our experiences."
Delphi shrugs. "I barely knew of their existence. But as a pixie, I've seen weirder things than a girl with a bumble-butt."
"Please don't call it that," Taiga requests.
"If anything, we're kinda similar. I mean, they say pixies look a lot like butterflies."
"That's true!" Summer says with a quick hop of joy. "You're like a little bug."
Taiga smirks slightly and lets out a quiet chuckle. "Little bug."
Delphi stands up on your shoulder and plants her hands against her hips. "All right, let's not keep saying that."
"So how close do you think you can get us?" Eva asks you. "With your Bunny Hop, I mean."
You scan your eyes along the map. Where Mela's finger was, you lay your hand upon the paper and slide it along. I've been to Silverleaf, or more specifically, Morniwo. It's been awhile, so even that would be challenging. That being said, the area we're going to seems to just be an open grassland. All I really need to do is land us safely somewhere around this area here, and then it's about looking for a so-called Stone of Happiness and the nearby twin trees.
"It shouldn't be too hard. If we gotta wander around a bit, then we will, but we do also have four people coming who have the ability to fly."
Meladarai places her hands upon her chest. "I wish you all good fortune. Be safe. Do not worry about us, as we are strong as well." And after those well-wishes, her hands caress up to her cheeks. There she enjoys the feeling of her fingers threading through her hair. She realizes after a moment what she's doing, and quickly stops before bringing her hands back down to the table.
You smile. "Enjoying your new body?" you ask.
She gasps. A pale blue glow comes to her cheeks. "Oh yes. Apologies. I know I have had it for a handful of days now, but I am still getting used to having a tangible form again. There are still some things I would love to do with it."
Delphi grins wide and snickers. "Oh I bet there is."
"H-Hey! That is not wh-what I was talking about!"
While the others enjoy a good laugh, you take a deep breath and prepare yourself. One by one, you take the hand of somebody in the room. Delphi continues to rest on your shoulder while the rest of the girls come in close. Mela watches from the opposite end of the table, and gives one final blushing nod to send off your journey. You focus your mind intently on the map, and try to visualize where it would be in relation to Silverleaf, and everywhere else you've been to the south of here--Lord Barkis' tower, Cat's vampire castle, Brumberg. You need to think more westward than that. Then... south... past the Pecho Stream which runs all the way down from the Western Pecho Peaks--the massive mountain range that separates Tivera from the Oraang Desert. South. West. South. West. You clench up your body, squat down low, and through the intense weight of your entire party pushing through warping space, you manage to take off. Bunny Hop!
