Chapter 3 by Shandor Shandor

Now what?

Find Some Clothes

I decided that the first order of business would be to find clothing. Running around nearly naked in a world that may or may not frown on such things wasn’t exactly the best plan in my mind. I retreated further down the alley, hiding in a doorway when I thought I heard someone coming. Turning left into another alley, I saw someone had hung a pair of men’s clothes (at least I hope it was a men’s tunic) out to dry on a clothesline connected between buildings. After a bit of theft, I was now the proud owner of a pair of mostly dry black slacks and a purple tunic. Now I just needed shoes.

I exited the alleyway to find myself in what looked to be a market. Reaching into my new pockets, I found a pair of gold coins with a foreign writing on them that I could strangely understand, despite not really recognizing the characters. They said “Issued by the Grand Gaian Bank, Year 341”, with a generic picture of a crown on one side, and some lady’s profile on the other side.

After a bit of looking, I found what looked like a clothing salesman. Assuming that whatever goddess magic got me here also let me communicate with its inhabitants, I started talking to the merchant.

“How much for a pair of boots?” I asked, showing him the gold coins. He reached down below his stall and pulled out a pair of relatively new looking boots that appeared to be my size.

“That’ll be both of them gold pieces there,” said the merchant, eying the gold. Before I could accept the offer, a young blonde girl with purple eyes rushed to my side, pointing a finger at the merchant.

“Malcom! Stop trying to scam the foreigners again! I swear! If I catch you again, I’m gonna report you to the guild!” The girl said, her chest heaving as she berated the middle aged man.

“Fine, fine. One silver. Here’s your damn change,” he says giving you nine silver coins and the boots in exchange for your one gold. “Damn brat. I oughta report you to the guards for obstruction of business,” he muttered angrily.

I quickly slipped the boots on, before turning back to the girl. She wore a white button up shirt with a red bowtie, her sleeves pulled up to her elbows. She wore a red plaid skirt with black thigh high socks and brown boots. Her large breasts were accentuated by her posture, almost pushing them together with her arms crossed like that.

“Thanks for the help. How’d you know I’m a foreigner though?” I asked, trying not to stare at her chest.

“You weren’t wearing shoes, your pants are wet, you’re wearing a woman’s tunic, and you’re trying to spend gold pieces in a marketplace on boots. Also, I saw you climbing out of the fountain earlier,” she said, stifling a laugh.

Dammit. I knew it wasn’t a men’s tunic.

“You saw all that, huh...” I said, rubbing my neck in embarrassment. She chuckled.

“My name’s Anna. I’m the clerk down at the adventurer’s guild.” she said, extending her hand.

“I’m Flynn,” I said, shaking her hand, which is apparently a universal constant.

“I’m assuming you’re here to sign up for the guild. Most foreigners are. Gives them a reliable source of income, and an easy path towards citizenship,” Anna said, pointing down the road to a building with the word “Guild” painted on its sign.

Sounds like a plan. It’d provide some security in a world of unknowns. Plus, being an adventurer? That’s so fucking awesome! It’s just like in the games and anime! I can get a party of hotties like her, kick some monster ass, get paid for it, and maybe even get laid for it if I’m lucky!

“Yes, thank you, Anna,” I said, not mentioning my fantasies.

“It’s my pleasure. Please, follow me, I’ll help you get registered.”

The Guild
