Chapter 4 by Shandor Shandor

The Guild

Registration

I followed Anna into the Adventurer’s Guild HQ. On one end of the lobby was a message board filled with requests for adventurers to complete. Several adventurers were crowded around. Next to the board was the clerk desk, where Anna was leading me to. On the other end of the lobby was several tables and chairs and what looked to be a built-in tavern inside the adventurer’s guild.

“Here’s a new Adventurer Card for you. Once you sign your name, it’ll be magically linked to you, and you can use it to level up and allocate skill points, change your class, etc.” said Anna, handing me a piece of hardened parchment about twice the size of a driver’s license. I signed my name in the spot. The card glowed with a faint purple light, as words began to appear in the other previously empty spots.

Name: Flynn Race: Human Gender: Male Class: Adventurer Level: 1 Skills and Spells:

The “skills and spells” tab was still empty, meaning I hadn’t learned any skills yet. Anna peeked over at my adventurer card.

“Adventurer, huh. I guess a generalist class is good for someone without a party. Wait...level one? Even most new adventurers are already level four...” she muttered.

“I, uh, was a bit sheltered as a kid,” I bluffed. Not exactly a lie, but I figured saying I was from another world wasn’t the best plan.

“Hm... maybe you should try for a one or two star request first, at least until you get a party,” Anna advised, gesturing towards the notice board.

“Thanks for the advice,” I said, pocketing my card. After I left the counter, several adventurers began lining up at the clerk desk, ready to start their requests. Looking over the board, the only one and two star requests were “Slay some Goblins, 2*”, “Pick some medical herbs, 1*”, or “Map a Cleared Dungeon, 2*”. The goblin slaying task was out of the question. I was unarmed, and I’ve seen enough episodes of Imp Killer to be wary of small, green monsters.

“Excuse me,” a voice said. I turned, seeing a girl around my age with long crimson hair and eyes, falling down below her shoulders which were covered in a cloak. She wore a buttoned red tunic that showed off her huge breasts. The button at the top was struggling to contain their sheer volume. What a trooper. She wore tall brown boots, and a fairly short skirt, barely visible under her tunic’s length. She held a wooden staff with a pink crystal at one end in her right hand. Lastly, she had one of those fantasy mage hats that never made any sense to me. Like, why? They aren’t particularly fashionable or functional. Unless they’re important to magic casting somehow, it just doesn’t- “I saw you talking to the guild clerk. I figure you’re a new adventurer, and don’t have a party yet.”

Taken out of my thoughts by the girl continuing, I blushed a bit. “Yeah, I just registered. My name’s Flynn. And you are?”

“Sofia. I’m a level 4 pyromancer. I was hoping that you’d form a party with me,” she said, twirling her fiery hair with her left hand.

“That’d be great!” I said excitedly. A mage like her would be a perfect addition. Plus, she’s super hot. Pun unintended. “Do you have a preference for what request we should start with?”

“Hmm...” she stood next to me, staring up at the board. “How about this one?” She pointed at a 3* request called “Defeat the Blue Slime”.

The slime. The first enemy you fight in just about every rpg. The trash enemies that you can defeat with only a few attacks. Easy. Though, the 3* rating is slightly concerning.

“Sounds good to me. Though, I don’t actually have a weapon on me, so we should probably stop by an armory. Do you know where a good one is?” I asked.

“There’s one near the guild. Before we go, let me see your card so I can join your party,” Sofia said. I took my Adventurer’s card out, and she placed her hand on the back of it. It glowed with a red light, and a picture of a fireball showed up under the “Party Member” section of the card, with Sofia’s name next to it.
