Chapter 7 by brambank brambank

Where should Leanne go next?

Find Abbie

Leanne had had enough of this. It was all getting too weird for her. She needed to find Abbie and tell her everything. She seemed like she was in charge around here. Maybe Abbie already knew, but then why would they allow volunteers to work there if this kind of thing was going on. Either way Leanne wanted answers.

Having seen nothing of Abbie since she first entered the place Leanne decided to look upstairs. As she reached the second floor she noted how similar it was to the others. Still dingy. Still lifeless.

"How am I supposed to find her?" she questioned aloud. "She could be anywhere in this place." However before Leanne could get too exasperated she heard a woman's voice from further down the corridor. "Abbie? Is that you?" There was no response.

Leanne listened silently. Then she heard the voice again. It definitely sounded like Abbie. She moved closer. It seemed to be coming from around the corner. As Leanne continued down the corridor she turned the corner and came across one of the residents.

"Hi, um, have you seen Abbie?" she asked, little startled. The man was silent and Leanne wasn't sure if he'd heard her or not. She was about to repeat her question when the man responded.

"I saw her go in here," he said, pointing to an open door.

"Great!" relied Leanne with a smile. "Thanks for your help." She walked towards the room and called out again. "Abbie?" But there was still no sign of the young woman. Leanne stepped further inside in hope of spotting her but the room was empty. She was about to turn back and check the pensioner understood her question when she heard the door slam shut behind her. She turned with a jump and saw the old man standing with his back to the door grinning slightly. "So, um... Where is she?"

"Oh she's not here," answered the resident. His grin growing ever wider.

"But you said..." Leanne tried to argue with the old man but she was cut off.

"I thought you could play with me instead." The pensioner's smile was now spread from ear to ear, displaying many teeth. Leanne was starting to panic now and began moving towards the door before anything happened. But the old man began moving closer to her too, cutting of the distance between them. As she tried to avoid him he grabbed her arm. Squeezing her tightly. "You're so pretty!"

"Th-Thanks," she answered nervously. "But, but I have to go find Abbie. I heard her voice."

"Oh, you mean this?" the old man took a moment before speaking again. "Were you looking for me? Come to me."

Leanne couldn't believe it. The pensioner sounded exactly like Abbie. She tried in vain to push the pensioner back but his grip remained impenetrable. His creepy smile a permanent fixture on his face. She had to get away from him but how? There was no way to loosen his hold on her and she was trapped in that room with nowhere to run. She had to think of something fast before he did whatever he was planning.

What should Leanne do?
